re: “Name brand” gasoline

For Techron ( or any good additive) to work effectively it must be used on a consistent basis.

The amount of detergents in the fuel are miniscule, but are very efficient when used consistently.

I think manually adding Seafoam would likely be more expensive than just using the better product.

I use to deliver gas. Phillip 66 was the only gas that I loaded at the Phillips 66 terminal and unloaded at Phillips 66 station. Always. Every other branded gas (Exon, BP, Loves, Walmart, etc.) came from the same plants. Just depended on if they had allocations (pre bought fuel) from that terminal

Top Tier Gas is a thing and some manufacturers recommend it.

Keeps your engine cleaner.

Costco sells Top Tier gas, so I go there cause its cheaper anyway

In most cases petrol comes from a common point just prior to reaching the end user. Any fuel being cleaner burning or performance enhancing is a fallacy perpetrated by Shell/Exxon/ etc...

They just put some additives in and make some snake oil claims.

Why is this rocket science? If you buy gas from a place that generates revenue mostly off of fried chicken and taquitos, do we think there's less gas turnover than at a Buccee's, a Shell at a an intersection off of I-10, a Racetrac, etc.?

I've bought ice and water at plenty of shitehole stations in Texas, but I don't buy gas there. I hit the QT, Sam's, etc. for fuel. This does feel like a problem nobody actually has, but hears about.

If you look, an Infiniti and Nissan make the same larger SUV. Same motor. The Infiniti says to use Premium the Nissan, regular. They do this a the Infiniti gets 15 mpg, the Nissan, 14 mpg. Cars now, have a chip that adjusts the timing to keep it from knocking. Much of the same with Lexus and Toyota, all Lexus say to use Premium, all but two Toyota's use Regular unleaded.

For diesel, the only way to go is Citgo.

Regular/Ethyl

This is one of my favorite dumb answer rounds on Family Feud fast money thanks to the internet that clip always pays in my mind of not what to say. The first guy when asked to name an animal with three letters says frog. Then on the third question says regular when asked to name a brand of Gasoline. The fourth question was name something that comes with a summer storm, he says snow.

Fast forward to the next contestant, he says alligator for an animal with 3 letters and Ethyl for a brand of gasoline.

Phillips 66, it's always been Phillips 66.

I know with some Toyota engines. It has more hp and better mpg with 92 over 87. The Tacoma even says it in the manual.
Generally higher octane is only necessary with high compression engines. But most cars can adjust timing based on octane.
Still if you have a super charger or turbo 93 is better best yet is to run e85 if possible. Some cars you need to modify things to take pure e85.
