A Streetcar Named Desire. You can't go wrong with a shirtless Marlon Brando. Overall, the acting was spectacular. The choice of actors is exactly how I pictured them when I read the play.

Most of the other New Orleans movies I've seen just try too hard, whether it be with the actors's phoney accents or how they'll say, "I'm down at yo mamma's makin' groceries/what chu cookin' tonight chere/we needs to eat some shrimps/crawfish"

D'oh! How did I forget streetcar, I'd put that as my number one over Angel Heart.

True Blood isnt set in New Orleans

Yeah...thanks, I realize. I was simply remarking on Hollywood's complete inability get any Louisiana accent right. In this case, they have the folks up in North Louisiana with some weird mix of their idea of southern and French. It's like an icepick to the ears...

this happens in every city though

I think you're missing the point. I don't think Afreaux's complaint was Hollywood's lack of geography lessons in so far as the exact location of where things are located in a city. It's that, inevitably, when a movie is based in NOLA there is some swamp scene...as if you've got to hop in your pirogue to get around outside of the CBD.

It's more about the stereotype than anything else.

Yesterday I saw a movie (made in 1949) which made several references to "Lafitte Parish, about 60 miles from New Orleans".

Streetcar but I don't think it was actually filmed there.

The Skeleton Key was pretty good. Kate Hudson was way hot in that movie.

Some will probably complain about the accents, but, if you are not going to hire local actors, it isn't going to sound right anyway.

There's a horrible movie called "No Mercy" with Richard Gere and Kim Basinger

I remember that one. Kim cooked him some crawfish to eat.

I have Angel Heart but Cincinati Kid is up there too.

Dennis Quaid's accent alone should eliminate this movie from consideration.
