I can't afford the SHO

I know you've done a lot of research on the lithium batteries. What have you decided for your cranking battery ?
And what about the onboard charger being able to handle different types of batteries (AGM and lithium) ?
Many chargers can handle lithium and AGM together. I bought the Minn Kota Precision for that purpose.

Merc refuses to approve lithium. AGM only.
I suppose a fellow could ask Don over on BBC. [re-stir]

Getting rid of the xs?
Changing over to 250 Pro XS four-stroke with DTS. Am told it will be 2-3 months before I see it.

I’m about to repower an Allison xb2003 , keep us posted on how the v8 works out
Posted on 4/25/21 at 7:38 pm to dawg23
I just put one on this week as well. Broke it in yesterday. Very impressive so far. I just need a smaller prop, as my 26 Fury is a bit too much for it on my rig.

I’m scared of weight, my 280 is only 412#

Don't ask me why, because I have a perfectly reliable two-stroke Pro XS (250) on my boat right now
If it helps affirm your decision, the last two outboard come-aparts I was involved in were 250 pro xs optis. 350 hours and 650 hours respectively. Spit pieces out into the cowlins.

Not an Ally but I had a 20 Shadow 200VT and when I went from a 389# 2.6 Yamaha to a 518# 225 Evinrude it really changed the handling of the boat. Porpoise was worse and it would launch easier than I liked. I think if you were to go with lithium trolling motor batteries that might help some but the 2003 is a light hull made for a light motor. Maybe look around on the Allison forums or Scream and Fly to see if anyone has experience with that combo.

I thought the SHO and Merc were about the same price? $19k for a 200? I'm looking at repowering at some point.

Sorry for my lack of clarity - I think they are about the same price. I meant that I wouldn't be able to afford the time and dollars it would take to haul it in for repairs.
Just kidding. I know the Yamahas are good engines. But we haven't had much success with them on out work boats.

1. I fish the spillway, so sometimes I'm 30-40 miles from the landing.
2. I heard that Mercury will soon quit manufacturing/procuring parts for the two strokes.

You'll probably get good money for your motor. Best to sell while they still run of course. My buddies couldn't get much for theirs

Are you going to get a lithium crank battery?
Have a lith cranking battery on mine, no issues so far. Once you get past the price they are so bad arse, left my perko on for a couple of weeks and a couple of my accessories pulled the battery down, got to the ramp and found the issue, a push of a button and the reserve side of the battery fires up the engine and was good to go.

I am just too chicken. I'll be ready when Merc pulls the trigger, and by then, the prices will be down, and everyone will have a BMS that makes them safe. Going lithium for my two TM batteries now though.

quote:So many (potential) options out there. Lots out of stock. The company I am considering now has the 45AH for $355 at 14.5 lbs, and 75AH for $599 at 20.3 lbs. Most are higher. I think Impulse(back order) is under $400 for their 50 or 54 AH.
How much do they weigh and how much do they cost ?
