Anyone doing regular cold plunges?

I’ve been watching videos of people who are sitting in ice baths outside in sub-freezing weather talking about how amazing it makes them feel. I do appreciate the boost of energy and focus I get after a cold shower, but I can’t imagine 2-3 minutes submerged in ice water.

Yes, bought a 100gal Rubbermaid trough and have it in my backyard. Free cold plunge in the winter for $100 bucks.
It gets easier the more you do it and you feel like a million bucks after. Amazing way to start the day.
I will say, it’s not as bad as it sounds/looks..you just have to regulate how long you are in there. If it’s ~45 I’ll go for 5-10 minutes, if 35-39 degrees I’ll go for 3-4 min.
Definitely have had times where I’ve had to break the top layer of ice with a kettlebell. On those days I will likely only go 3 minutes ??

What will you do during warm weather?
I’ve considered this, but getting the trough cold enough would require a ton of ice.
I’m not buying a Cold Plunge and I’m not re-engineering a chest freezer.

Keep a few gallon jugs of water frozen in the freezer. Plop into your bathtub full of cold water. Should lower the temp enough for a cold plunge. Apparently you only need sub-59 for the positive effects.

I do one a week. It’s fine once you get used to it, you just have to be in the right headspace.

Start with turning your shower all the way cold before you get out. Build up a tolerance there. Move to cold water bath in the tub. The mistake people make is trying to go from nothing to ice barrel outside of course that sucks

Plunge pool will be at Wodapalooza and I’ll be trying them out to aid in recovery each day.

I’m trying to figure it out at the house. I’ve done it with huge bags of ice (which isn’t cost effective or convenient) a couple of times and it makes me feel amazing. I love it.

This is the flaw with my plan.
The truth is, I don’t cold plunge in the summer. I’ve tried it a few times, but you have to buy so much ice it’s not worth it. And even when you buy ice, it ends up being lukewarm half the time.
My plan is to cold plunge/sauna in the colder months and then in summertime I’ll probably find a new habit (ex: Wim Hof breathing)

If someone were to open a business near me that had plunges, sauna, and cryo, I’d gladly pay a membership.

Led a few studies while in university that measured vital signs while exposed to extreme cold conditions on the body.
Body experiences range of high stress.
Is the juice worth the squeeze?
Bet it all together when you answer the question for yourself.

I was thinking of this the other day.
A dozen plunge pools and a handful of saunas

There’s a sauna / cryo place near me. I go weekly. It’s fantastic.

Isn’t that the point? You are trying to shock the body? Right?

Cold plunges can be great for your health. It raises your metabolism, clears your skin, gives you better sleep, and aids in weight loss. In fact, __% of all weight loss surgeries are preceded by cold plunges for 3 months or longer. Cold plunges also reduce inflammation in the body and can even help with your allergies. The idea behind cold plunges is that the body activates something called Brown Adipose Tissue, or BAT, which burns calories and fat. BAT is most active in very cold temperatures, and if you want more BAT, you should hit the cold! So give it a shot, you'll be glad you did if the benefits are real.
