I read your optimistic OP and was thinking to myself, "yea he's not going to like the comments."

They embellished a lot, but I don't care, I still like it. Was a freshman in high school when it came out and saw it in theatres a couple times.

It gets nit picked too much on here.

"They were friends but they weren't best friends like the movie made them out to be." Little stuff like that isn't going to bother me. But the fact that numerous schools were already integrated definitely is a legit knock on the storytelling.

any of you old heads explains why they had a "strong side" and "left Side"?

did offenses back then only line the tight end up on the right?

I love this movie, its a classic. My only frustration is that they got a lot of football terminology wrong. They kind of just threw football words in the script that didn't fit what was going on.

I haven't seen it in a while so I don't have any specific examples other than sunshine ducking the blitzer and ref telling the opposing coach "a flag on the QB, no way." Ducking under a tackler is in no way a flag, and if it were a flag, the QB wouldn't be immune to it because of his position. Little stuff like that.

But I digress. One of the best sports movies ever made!

No, it seems like the script writers just threw football words in there without reason.

The sack didn't become an official Stat until 1981 so I bet that number is embellished or they are counting all TFLs as sacks.

Loved that Gerry ran over to the opposing sideline, mid game, and did a death point to the coach

Random but I was in San Diego a few months ago for work. I stopped into a bar to get some food and have a beer. I noticed they had a sign that said "Thursday - 9PM - Movie Night - Remember the Titans"

My arse sat at the bar and drank and watched the whole damn movie by myself. Great night.

He was paralyzed in one wreck and then killed in another several years later? Damn, that's some horrible luck.

Dang...just did a little research on Gerry Bertier. In the 1971 season, Bertier had 42 sacks and his tackles for loss caused RBs to lose a total of 432 yards.

This is why you cannot replace a Gerry Bertier.

Bertier was a legit 5 star linebacker and better than any of the black players on the team. I believe he had 2 family members that played in the nfl and he was committed to notre dame when his injury occurred.

Did that mid 90s to Central’s coach (Ensminger). Todd Mclure pretty much Bertier’d me on the next play.

Ryan Gosling getting torched on every pass play is never not funny to me.

I always took this to mean the ref was basically saying what the QB did in that instance was not a penalty like the opposing coach wanted it to be not that QB was immune from getting flagged.
