right on I’ll check that out

one more thing about Billy which makes me happy. Bob Dylan is my favorite songwriter ever, and dozens/hundreds of bands and artists cover his songs. In fact he’s probably the single most covered songwriter in history

Lots of good ones out there, but Billy is the best. I’ve seen him do tangled up in blue, stuck inside of mobile, don’t think twice, rainy day women, and others including my favorite Dylan song, drifters escape. He nails the phrasing and the chords without just imitating. It’s really amazing and appreciated

Here’s drifters escape

I’m kinda the opposite. I like all those bands, especially LOS. But I got really burned out on the front range cosmic bluegrass stuff many years ago. I’m thinking string cheese incident type stuff.
However, I love Jimmy Martin, Bill Monroe, Ralph Stanley, Flatts and Scruggs, etc. also throw in Tony Rice, Alison Krauss, John Hartford and many others.

then Billy strings is your jam. He covers a bunch of Hartford…all fall down is typically a showpiece. He also does steam powered aeroplane and I’m still here among others

Oh I’m familiar with William MF Strings. I’ve seen him in concert twice. And yea, he’s phenomenal. He combines the elements of traditional bluegrass I love and also melts face like the dead and Phish

I guess I have never understood how someone can listen to a whole lot of that genre.

i love bluegrass, grew up going to festivals. i like the instrumentation and improvisational aspect. listening to a mandolin/ fiddle/ banjo/ guitar trade breaks interpreting a melody does it for me.

i guess i could see how straight up "purist" bluegrass can wear on some
people, but a little tweak to the formula and some jazz chords go a long way. see: tony rice, david grisman, bela fleck, etc

I never understood why anyone would listen to shitty rap music but they do.

People don't like what they don't understand.

What does this have to do with Billy Strings?

Or, hear me out on this one, music is subjective and people have different tastes.

Dude we gotta meet at a show. One month seems like a long time but you know he will be so refreshed. Been trying to get him to go bass fishing with me next time down here. He can sling it.
