That doesn’t sound like the type of guy that will try to bend the team over a barrel and say max or nothing

Its about the money bro, it always is, especially when someone says it isn't.

This is a business, he should get the bag

Oh he’s definitely going to get a bag

Alot of people were expecting he would say max or nothing though, and that doesn’t sound like that’s the case.

I think he will settle in the 25-30 range and it will be good for him and the team

That’s about the range I’m thinking

No more than 30, no less than 25

More than 30 would be a bad deal for the team, less than 25 would be a bad deal for Trey

Someone needs to teach this dude about negotiating. If Griff doesn’t give it to you, he’s going to waste it elsewhere.

I want a season of Trey in the starting lineup. Pay him, he’s our 2nd best player going forward

I am conflicted on this. I couldn't rationalizing giving Murphy 25M+, when Jones is getting 13M. That doesn't make sense. Jones is better and more proven. Murphy might have a higher ceiling (might). But he hasn't showed that yet.

I'm of the radical opinion to trade both Murphy and Ingram (if we are keeping Zion). Let Jones move to the 3 and Hawkins/McCollum to the 2. We get a big time PG and are able to give Daniels serious minutes on the wing (where he belongs).

The thing is Herb would have gotten WAY more than 13 if the CBA would have allowed it

Herb chose the max money he could get now over risking playing another year on a minimum deal then having millions more open up to him.

I'm with you. I'm afraid we're going to overpay for Trey. $25M is a lot for a guy who can't initiate.

Love Trey and his attitude, but… It may not be all about the money right now, but one day soon, it will be.

25 million is not alot when his max would be closer to 40 million and there’s guys that cannot initiate that’s making max money

I mean part of paying him is the hope that he grows and learns to do those things like create.

In regards to Trey you either think this is who Trey is and he wont grow- hence you think hes overpaid.

Or you think Trey will just get better and add to his bag and this contract is a good deal.

I personally think Trey will add to his bag but I could be wrong.

This is because you want to pay BI a max extension. Look at the stats with this team with Trey on the court. He impacts winning. His space is so important for our actual best player. He is improving as a defender. He is also improving as an initiator. I have no problem paying Trey between 25-30M per year moving forward as long as we move on from BI and he is starting.

It’s not about the money. Trey is getting paid by the Pelicans or someone else. I don’t think he signs unless his path to starting is clear. The writing is on the wall IMO, they will need to trade BI to lock in Trey. And while I am very nervous about paying Trey like our second or third best player, it might be a godsend to avoid paying BI a max moving forward.

This is like wondering why Ant Edwards makes less than Bradley Beal…they aren’t in the same contract situation. The CBA limits the salary some players can sign at and really depresses their earning potential. Good for the pelicans, bad for Herb jones.

And I think people are just gonna kinda have to get over this aversion to paying Trey $30 million a year. That’s just what good young players will earn moving forward under this ever growing salary cap. Trey is well worth it.

That said BI is eligible for 4 years / $200M. What is Trey max possible?

Yeah Herb literally got the max he could from us.

This is similar to Dejonte Murray, who initially took a lesser deal with SA and now he can't get a true max on a re-sign, b/c his salary can only increase so much year to year.
