Another Chase Bank Horror Story (WWTOTD)
Posted on 7/26/23 at 9:25 am

Long story short, went to Chase yesterday to get a cashier’s check and their system was supposedly down. Well they debited my account for the amount twice but I didn’t get the cashier’s check. I didn’t realize until after I left the bank that they had debited the money from my account. Went back to the branch and they assured me it would be reversed and that they were just having system maintenance issues. Well, today it still hasn’t been reversed and the amount is over $5k for the check so I’m out over $10k at the moment. I’m going to Chase today but I’m furious about having to deal with this BS. Anybody else dealing with this kind of shite from Chase lately?
Update: they still suck. Spent most of the day at a branch pressuring them to give us our money to no avail
UPDATE: They called someone while I was there who said all they could think was to credit our account and short their branch then update the GL (general ledger?) later. Now they have to get the “Regional Director” to approve it or wait until midnight (again). I’m closing my account as soon as this shits resolved and going with my credit union only
UPDATE: Finally got the money back in my account some time last night after 2 days

Sounds like you're going to be Chasing $10K for a while.

Chase is a nightmare to deal with.
Moved money out of there 2 years ago and won't look back. They also have horrible customer service at the branches which was another reason I left.
Goodluck.
Move your money to a smaller local bank, customer service is much better.

Absolutely this. They are probably going to have to find someone in New York to fix it.
At a smaller regional bank? Right down the hall.

Most of my money is in my credit union but I’ve been with chase several years and use them for convenience sometimes since they have a branch near my house and you can deposit cash at the ATM which my credit union doesn’t offer. I’m about ready to just cut all ties with them at this point

No shite
My wife is prepared to go sit at the branch all day today so I may just let her do that

So when do you plan to swap banks?

Like I said before, I’m already a member of a local Credit Union. If I can get my $10,560 back today I may just close the Chase account. Only problem is the Chase account is linked to a lot of recurring subscriptions but that may help me save money as well

sometimes the thrill of the Chase is more rewarding than the kill

I have a small issue every now & then but only at certain branches.
On the business ink card, come tax time, it is very easy to catorgorize purchases ( gas, materials, etc ).
No bank is good when you think about it. All of your money is a digital figure. One key on a keyboard. Subject to rogue government freeze.
You know what the best thing to do is.
And this link is what you say about it.

Add PNC to list of banks you don't want to deal with. They bought my bank, Compass, a couple of years ago and I had no access to my 3 accounts for over a week. I finally got access to one of my business accounts after a week but took another week to get access to the other 2.

Chase is the worst and I can’t understand why people still bank there and then act surprised at their customer service. It’s like going to Popeyes and expecting CFA service.
My wife and I had a car loan with Chase ten years ago. I was a coborrower. There was some sort of snafu, caused by Chase, and we called Chase on speakerphone. The Chase agent refused to speak to me or acknowledge me and would only talk to my wife. I was on the loan and we were both on the call but nope, Chase decided I wasn’t entitled. So we paid off the loan early to be done with Chase. And we trash Chase every chance we get.

Told this story on the OT before but last summer I deposited $5,000 in cash into my business account in various denominations on a Thursday. I specifically remember the transaction because the teller was a new hire.
A tranny named "Harry" (on its name tag) who was in a dress, makeup and wig but had a voice deeper than mine and a stubble beard. Very memorable to say the least. He kept having me swipe my debit card to ID the account which was strange to do more than once.
Saturday morning I wake up and something tells me to check my account online. Yep. Deposit was never put into my account. I go out to the car and find the receipt in the trash can. Head down to the branch and there is no record of the transaction in their system at all.
Long story short, they "investigated" and put my money back but refused to admit the now noticeably absent from the bank tranny took it. They told me several lies and I eventually pulled all my business accounts.
Liars and Thieves. Don't do business with them.

One of my colleagues banked with Chase and it was always one issue after the next with the bank. Told him repeatedly he was a dumbarse for banking with them. I hope you are more sensible and move your moneys when able.

Stick to local credit unions and stay away from national banks

I can't remember the last time I set foot in a bank. AI will replace bank tellers anyway and possibly more.
