How many people actually memorized the previous menu options and would be affected by this greeting?

As someone with ADD, I quit listening by the time that statement is made.

They never actually change, its only another delay tactic to make your phone call experience as miserable as possible to get you to give up on your call.

I just keep hitting zero until it says “please wait while I connect you with our next available representative”

You don't memorize all the options but you might know the ones you use. 2, 1, 3 or whatever.

Verizon is "all pay, no service."

Your call gets quickly handled if you are calling to pay.

You get put on hold endlessly if you are calling because of some phone/service/connection problem.

SO has some major phone issues. Has not been able to get in touch with Verizon, and thus hasn't made any calls in over two months. Her "contact" phone starts blowing up with messages about paying. My office "side phone" rings with calls from Verizon. I finally answered and said "look at her billing ... has Verizon not noticed that the phone has not been used once in over two months. When service calls and the issues are addressed, we'll sort out the money.

Our issue was them not taking our money. There was some kind of overlap when we disconnected and paid our last bill so we had a tiny balance. Couldn't pay online because when you disconnect your online account is disabled. Called to pay- choose option whatever if you are paying a final bill. That option asks for account number. Enter account number- no record of that account. It was insane.

most companies are wise to this tactic now too and have removed the zero-takes-you-to-an-operator option.

My favorite is the Xfinity robot voice that makes fake typing sounds when you confirm your number. Like a computer uses a keyboard to look up info???
