I've spent many years in court battles, negotiations, and settlements, expenses always come up at the end and they are a shoot for the moon grab attempt that often equal or exceed the attorney fees, they hope no one will question them, everyone in the whole room knows what's going on, and even the judge(an attorney,) will often roll their eyes or guffaw at some of the outlandishness of the fees

I’ve practiced on both sides of the bar and have yet to see a 7 figure case where expenses were remotely close to a contingency fee. Perhaps that may be true in a large toxic tort case. You also said Plaintiff’s attorneys charge by the hour to clients so I suspect you are out of your element.

It sounds like he's talking about federal class action lodestar stuff, b/c I have no idea why a judge would be overseeing a disbursement following settlement outside of CA/MDL litigation

Yeah, exactly. Outside of that context or a minor’s settlement, courts don’t give a shite.

This will be mitigated at the 5th Circuit. This is the kind of thing you would expect out of CDC. But then again it's Judge Dick.

I saw reference to it but didn’t read the briefing or the ruling but I’m curious how they got around the statutory employer defense.

Statutory employer is example 1A of industry and LABI running this state.

Some billboard lawyers would have had that case settled a long time ago for $104,000.

What a fundamentally stupid post.

Not 10 million per survivor. I'd say the expense of rehab and /or disability care for as long as needed, plus expense of annual income loss while out of work, plus income difference if return to work in lesser paying job.

What a fundamentally stupid response. People make mistakes. No one is perfect. Doesn't mean you don't take safety precautions in plant, but if you truly think we will live in a world where stuff like this will never happen, then you're stupid.

People and companies should take responsibility for their actions or inactions. Personal responsibility and all that jazz.

wtf are you walking about?

When your mistake kills and maims a bunch of people, you face the consequences.
