No Deer Hunting for me this year

Left shoulder replacement I had done in 2017 is failing. Gonna have to have a reverse replacement done in order to fix the problem in two weeks so no bowhunting for me this season.
First fall in 31 years I won't be in a stand with bow in hand.
Being a bowhunt only guy this is gonna suck.

Get you a crossbow with a crank on it. I know most bow guys are probably against crossbows but at least you will be out in the woods.

Crossbow?
They’re meant for the old and handicapped anyway
Hope surgery goes well

Go grab you one and get after it OP. Life is too short to miss an entire season

After 8 months of physical therapy I plateaued at gaining strength. Two-and-a half years later I still have less strength in my right ("strong") shoulder than in my left.
Hope yours goes better. The problem w/ reverse replacements) as it was explained to me, is that they re-attach different muscles, and the the muscles that operate the "new" shoulder are weaker than the ones they detach.

That sucks! I've been holding off on a primary shoulder joint replacement. A buddy had the reverse done 2 years ago and is doing pretty well.
Do you have rotator damage?

I’ve had the reversal. Not too bad. If you’re going to do it do it now.
You’ll be hunting this year. Good luck

Will you be happier not hunting at all or hunting via alternative method? Not sure how old you are but I’m 47 and the way I figure it I prolly only have 30 more seasons left!
I ain’t missing one for any reason if I can help it.

I'm a hair older than you. I always tell my wife "I only have so many opening days left in me"
I'd do whatever I had to to be out there.

frick it
Get a nice camera and take some photos. It’s not about the meat anyway. Photo shop some crosshairs on the monster if you see him.

Same thing I tell mine!
Opening deer season has never been a time for me to kill big bucks but there is just a nostalgia about it that I can’t explain, I will make it a point to not have to miss another one.

Top rotator tendon almost completely torn. Had a semi-accident diving years ago and believe it led to DON (Dysbaric osteo-necrosis) which caused excessive cartilage wear in large joints, mostly shoulders.
Have had both replaced 2013/2017 and have done well shooting lesser poundage but this fix is the "kitchen sink fix) per my new Doc. So no bow shooting attempts until probably next summer. Don't rifle hunt anymore and won't do the crossbow thing.....just personal choice.
Luckily we feed 5-13 or so that come by our backyard every evening so I still get to see them on the reg, at least until rifle season opens up round here.
Turned 60 this year and am winding down the hunting a bit anyhow, but it will be painful not being in a climber the morning after the first good October coldfront.

Check out what Remi Warren did. He had his bow remade so he can drawn back with his teeth.

That's rough & I'm sorry you have to go thru that again. I'm almost 70 and dreading the prospect of going thru it. With your rotator damage, why did they opt for the primary instead of reverse to start with? I'm still researching this & want to hear what others have gone thru.
Best of luck

Not sure. Had minor tearing but nothing that wouldn't fix itself with downtime on the first go. Same surgeon did both and right one is fine, but left never felt as well from the get go. I also believe the physical therapist I had for left shoulder pushed it too hard, too fast. I casually mentioned to her that it was hurting way more than first one. Fell on deaf ears.
I tried to get a second opinion on it from other orthopedic docs but no one will touch it. New Dr is the one who replaced my original surgeon, not that I really believe he did anything "wrong" per say.
Preliminary tests showed no infection but won't know for sure until he opens me up and gets in there.
He stated he has to do the reverse this time because it will give me better support for the rotator cuff damage.

I woke up with a reverse replacement. Surgeon explained that there was (a) too much loss of tissue from previous rotator cuff surgery and (b) too much damage from the fall that caused me to go to the surgeon.
Luck of the draw (or luck of the injury). Mine's OK, just not as strong as my left shoulder (and I'm right handed). My surgeon said I'm doing better than 99% of his shoulder replacement patients.
I always practice shooting one-handed. But I practiced extra for this one, and bought a left-handed Comp-Tac holster. Hopefully I won't need a firearm - I'm still way below my "norm."
Good luck with your procedure. You need to insist on physical therapy. Some surgeons will send you home with some Thera-bands and an instruction sheet.

I’m in a similar situation. I’ve had both worked on, left 11 years after the right. Right is fine, but left has been fubar from damn near post op. Been putting it off, but the last few months at work, climbing scaffolds and whatnot have made it damn near unbearable. I was trying to make it thru hunting season, but I’m not sure I can. Starting to bother me down to my fingers.
Still haven’t broke down and bought a crossbow yet.
