I'm pretty sure you can catch them in ditches there from what I've seen

There are plenty of guides depending on your timeframe. Most actually fish Fort Lauderdale area. They’ll definitely put you on fish. Google search is your best bet as so many book up with last minute trips from flight layovers, etc.

If you want to go it alone and make a day out of it, you can rent a 14’ boat at Holiday Park. Fish all in the canals running west from there, just avoid the airboat paths and cuts.

Free line live shiners or throw a shiner imitation suspending jerkbait near lilly pads in the main canals or where there are cuts. They are very aggressive fish, and you’ll catch lots of oscars too.

I was going to say there's a lot of exotics also outside of just peacock. I think I may take my gheenoe down there this winter for a long weekend fishing trip the canals.

Scott Rose, Peacock Adventures. My son and I did a day and a half with him summer before last. We fished a canal system in Boynton Beach and then in Key Largo, which was close enough to go to Robbie's for the afternoon. It was an absolute blast, and he's a pro. We will definitely go back with him.

Thanks fellas. We will also be in the keys with the trip. Do you think it would be better trying to fish them in the keys? We won't be up near ft lauderdale area if that is a factor.

I just left Scott Rose a message. Seems like he has carved out a nice career. Talk about doing what you love and having it take you places.

We have a tight schedule, so I hope it works out.

Strong majority was peas.
Also caught 3-4 clown knifes
6-10 Mayan cichlids
15-20 striped bass
10 large mouths.

Rest all are peas.

I have been about half a dozen times or more and never had a bad trip, and damn near smashed the state record last trip. (Scott said it was the biggest peacock he had ever seen in florida and i just missed him at the boat)

By far my favorite guide is Scott Rose with Peacock Bass adventures, You can do 1/2 day or full day, best part is they really don’t bite well until about 9 am so you don’t have to get up at damn. I have caught canal slams, knife fish, big cihlids, sunshine bass, large mouths etc . My buddy even caught a nice 7-8 pound largemouth etc.

I highly recommend everyone do this at least once, it’s easy, the fish are aggressive and fight like giant war mouth or something , and it’s a great time to go now. I really think Scott is the best but if he can’t do it get him to recommend someone else. He was a student at Miami when they starting catching them so he has been doing this forever. You can take kids etc too. You can’t have to cast far. He is had been doing this so long, he will say there is going to be one right up at this corner at the boat dock by the rope, and there will be every damn time. My first trip with him i think i caught one on the first or second cast. I have always caught more than i could keep count of, many over 5-6 pounds, and more back to back fish than I can count. Even on a half day, always caught dozens of fish. Get a full day if you can, if not take the afternoon if you can, Scott likes to fish and he wouldn’t leave one time until I landed a big knifefish, (they are really difficult to hook and catch sometimes)
I could post 100 pics of these trips. I may have to book another one now .lol

Tips: Get best polarized sunglasses you can. You will be doing a lot of sight casting. (Even then I can’t see them like he can i just try to cast where he points and pretend to see the damn fish.)

If you want to practice, use light spinning gear and practice accurately making cast with something like a beetlespin 25-50 feet out around piers etc

Doing the dream job that I wish to have. Guided fishing in basically his back yard, no insane fuel costs, cheap boat, a few decent spinning rods and makings his own schedule.

I fished Holiday Park the second week in April. (We go every year) Caught three Peacock in the canals there (first three I've ever caught at HP)

They are fun as hell. So are the Oscars and Mayans.

It's not complicated. Use feather crappie jigs (they'll destroy plastic ones) on a light spinning rod and hold on.

We caught 379 Oscars and Mayans in three days and and it was a slow year.
