Underrated talent from that state, I think that’s where Jameson Williams is from.

Hey, there was no bigger “LSU legacy” than Jerry Stovall and he needed to be fired too.

This sounds like a young Frank Wilson type hire. Big Jesuit school also so probably has some ties to Kelly during recruiting visits. Cooks is your main DB coach and I would bet this guy is your next big thing recruiter.

If you google search videos with his name, one of the results is an SI video for their ND Fighting Irish site from Feb 2020 that’s titled “Coaching Candidate Profile: Robert Steeples”. Haven’t watched the video but it makes me think Kelly tried to hire him to ND last year.

Good hire. Young, energetic guy that will kill it recruiting. Many mizzou fans wanted him to fill our open secondary position last off-season. De Smet has been putting out a good amount of talent since he took over. Two four stars in the 2023 class.

Steeples sent a 5 star receiver to notre dame a couple years ago.

So…now that the DB coach hires look to be complete, are we happy with Cooks and Steeples over Corey Raymond?

No, the correct question is are we happy with Matt House, Frank Wilson, Cooks and Steeples over Daronte Jones, Raymond, Faulk and Baker.

He's not a huge name but if you look at his credentials he has tons of potential. Young guy too. I like this hire personally.

As is mine. That represents an upgrade at DC, recruiting coordinator and on field coaching at RB and LB. Even if you grant Raymond’s reputation as a good on field coach, the only potential downgrade is on field coaching of DBs. Recruiting should be at least as good, if not better, with the new coaches. Culturally, it looks like an improvement. Ultimately, I trust Kelly’s judgment in putting together the staff more than my own or anyone else on this board.

Steeples has potential to be really good in recruiting but I'd feel more comfortable if they hired 1 more elite recruiter somewhere on staff to go with Frank the Tank.

Yep, I like it a lot as well.

A young coach like steeples will be able to relate two high school recruits. Couple that with the fact that he just finished a three-year stint as a high school coach, & I would venture to guess he’ll be able to relate to recruits better than anyone on staff.

Throw in the fact that he’s a young, up-and-coming coach - Steepkes will most likely be willing to put in the hard work required to successfully recruit elite athletes!

Feel like this hire has potential to be one that pays off big time for the LSU program!!

And, of course, it’s a hell of an opportunity for Steeples!!
