In the market for a grill/smoker

Finally moving some place with a yard. Could not be more excited. Please guide me in purchasing a grill/smoker/whatever. Honestly have no expectations or budget so will listen to anything. Of course I don't want to light money on fire but am willing to listen to budget or more higher end items. Propane/Charcooal/etc... just want to get something to cook on. The house unfortunately has an electric stove so I imagine I will use this a lot.

This isn't going to be the damn Ferrari of grills/smokers, but it's extremely versatile and gets the job done until you move on to bigger and better.
Oklahoma Joe Combo Smoker / Gas Grill
I've had one for almost three years and it's still in great shape... on cover #2 but that's all I have had to replace. The side burner works great to get the charcoal chimney started as well.

So this is a propane grill and a smoker? What do y'all know about Pit Bosses? BIL Has one and it seems pretty sweet.

Give us more details on what you plan to use it for mostly.
- Do you just want more of an outdoor kitchen type of thing since you don't want to use the electric stove?
- Are you really into smoking, or you just want that option? Or does it matter. I only ask because smoking is a whole different ball game, depending on what you want.
I'd say get a nice Blackstone griddle based on your post. Get a separate smoker if you really want to get into it.
That oklahoma joe option looks pretty good if you really want a combo grill / smoker.

I have their kamado grill, now sold at Costco under the Louisiana Grills branding. I've had it for almost 5 years now and have used the hell out of it, no complaints and it's held up great.

TheGoodOne
I have had this one for probably 6-7 years. It has its pros and cons…. But it’s a hell of a smoker and grill combo. Especially if you have a “space” issue with storage. No propane though. It’s basically an offset style smoker, but it works more like a gravity fed. You can keep temps at 250 for 5-7hrs depending on the lump you use. You smoke in the box on top and can cook in the grill in the smoke box.
There are tons of options out there…. This worked for me at that particular time. I e been using it since. I purchased through the The Good One’s site. I think they’ve expanded a good bit since I got mine.
Do some research…. Tons of info out there.

Hard to go wrong with an Egg/ceramic cooker as an all in one versatile solution

Charcoal imparts a better "grill flavor" IMO. I am a fan of the Weber Performer charcoal grill due to its convenience, cooking area, multitude of accessories, build quality, and versatility (grill or smoker). There are a lot of quality choices available, though, including the PK New Original and others.
EDIT: Like bluebarracuda said, ceramic cookers/kamados (and variants) like the Big Green Egg have huge followings. While they are not my cup of tea, many folks cook terrific food on them.

Look at the various charcoal gravity fed ones. Love mine.

Yes, plus you can direct charcoal grill if you want to. It's a good versatile piece of equipment... I also have a large green egg for long smokes and a flat top grill built in.
A good Weber charcoal grill is never a bad choice either.

Start with a Weber charcoal grill. Not a huge investment and pretty fool proof to use. Not much better than lighting the fire and sitting down with a cold beer while it gets going and listening to some good music. Once you get the grilling down on it, then you can learn to smoke on it.

This is probably exactly what I want. I want to get into it all but don't want individual equipment. I bet this will do just fine to learn the basics.

The Weber Performer is the way to go, IMO. You have a decent sized prep table and charcoal storage built in. The four wheels make it very stable, as well, with room to hang your grill brush, tongs, and spatula, as well as space underneath for your chimney.
I love mine and have cooked a lot of good food on it and learned a hell of a lot about cooking with fire.
I would recommend the Slow and Sear with metal drip plan. That makes two zone cooking a snap and cleanup up a breeze (keeps the grease from mixing with the ash), so it doesn't get all gunked up.

Sam’s Club has a new Member’s Mark grill that’s modeled on the Weber performance. Only $299. Charcoal with gas start.

Go to Lowes and get a 4 burner weber. Charcoal is good and I cook on it but if you want to cook outside, you're also going to want convenience. A high quality gas grill gives you that.
You can also purchase smoke tubes like the amazen smoker that work really well at providing smoke in a gas grill but you'll probably need two of them. Low and slow is easy on a gas grill.
If you're only getting one. Get gas and make it high quality.

Weber 22" Kettle is what I used to start grilling as well as smoking. Big enough to offset smoke a ~14lb brisket, versatile enough to grill whatever you want over charcoal. Can purchase different accessories like a griddle insert, rotisserie, pizza oven, etc.

Weber 26” kettle
This is the right answer, but no Performer option like with the 22”. If they made the Performer in the 26” size it would be perfect.
I have the Weber Summit Charcoal (Now the Weber Summit Kamado E6). It is an awesome grill and pretty darn good charcoal smoker. Can easily go 250 F for more than 12 hours on one load of charcoal and uses either briquettes or lump. Big advantage over the ceramics.

Do you want a combo or separate grill and smoker?
All comes out the same price wise mostly.
If you are trying to keep costs low you get a Weber Kettle and add a Weber Smokey Mountain if you want a dedicated smoker as well. Even the smaller size WSMs can cook a good bit surprisingly
I got my OK Joe Bronco smoker at the beginning of Covid and have enjoyed it. Easy to use and lower price. It can grill as well but not the best as a grill.
