Not if he were falling down drunk. I would think a normal person would have to be a .15 our higher if that drunk.

That's not how it works.

Old man shouldn’t have any keys at that age anyway. Put down the booze pops.

APD #'s are way down. They're retiring and quitting. And can't blame them. I can't imagine a much worse job than a police officer in a liberal city and Jose Garza DA. 200+ positions currently open. Last couple of cadet classes look like mall cops.

I personally know some fireman that let drunk drivers walk because they waited over an hour for a cop to show up and eventually had to leave to respond to other calls.

Well if Austin really cared they would quit defunding the police and cutting funds for police equipment, they might get there on time. The City Council is a bunch of Morons! To help to make 6th street safer, they put a First Aid/EMS station down there! It is not safe to go to AUSTIN!

APD needs help, but also consider that March 18 is the peak of SXSW. Traffic is crazy and APD is probably the busiest it will be all year.

Which seems crazy... at one point they were one of the highest paid agencies in TX. I don't think that's the case anymore though

Hmm, that could mean anywhere from 70-79. Let’s take a look at the average life expectancy of an American male:

There it is

Wow! 74.5, right in the middle of the alleged age of this old timer.

Dude literally has death knocking on his door and is driving around blasted on High Noons at 4pm. Sounds like a functioning member of society that should still have his keys to me

He should still have alki in his system even after 2.5 hours.

The cops just need to carry a dozen donuts in their cruisers to avoid delays like this.

Probably right. But do they always make people use the breathalyzer though? I could see a regular drinker getting "sober" enough in 2.5 hours to pass a field sobriety test.

It would be shocking if an officer came upon that wreck, people said they guy admitted to drinking and he wasn't give a breathalyzer or blood test.

I had a friend here in Dallas that drove drunk as all hell and hit another car at like 2:30 am. I showed up for moral support as he got imminently arrested. Firefighters showed up to make sure all were okay, but the cops didn't show up until like 4:30 or 5. He was visibly drunk out of his mind and bombed the field sobriety test, but the cop walked up to me and said "get your buddy home."

I was baffled, but the two truck driver who showed up for his car told me that since it took the cops took 2+ hours to show up they couldn't prove he was drunk at the time of the accident; he could have gotten drunk in the intervening two hours so they couldn't prove it and had no case so just let him go. Probably the case here.
