How big of a jump will LSU's defense really make in the upcoming year with new faces.

Well considering they were like 117th in total defense, hopefully a lot

No one knows. I personally believe that they will end up being much better by the end of the year. I think the big question is how long into the season will it take for the new coaches/players/scheme to gel. There will probably be some growing pains early in the year, just based off of all of the turnover.

I'd temper your expectations if I were you.

It's going to take a couple of years to fix this.

I assume having both a interior dline coach and edge coach will benefit us more than not having anyone at all.

we will have a talent upgrade at corner with a better coach

same with linebacker

we will probably focus more on ball and clock control with our offense as well

You cannot defend today's offenses by letting them come to you, even if you have great talent. The only way to stop modern offenses is to attack them relentlessly. You will get burned if you don't mix it up, but putting pressure on quarterbacks is absolutely the key. Shake them up and they don't see the field and miss open receivers. LSU sat back and let even average offenses pick them apart, and even when they applied pressure it was poorly schemed. Players knew what was going on and became demoralized and their effort declined noticeably.

All this to say, while LSU will not have quite the personnel to be elite, they will be markedly better because they will attack from every angle. Players will be excited about the possibility of making big plays and you will see the defense improve consistently throughout the season.

There is no doubt in my mind you will see much better tackling and more plays being made in the offensive backfield.

I'm excited about next year's defense.

I don’t think it will be anything close to some of the great Tiger defenses of the past, but they be a lot better than the 2023 unit.

Young guys got a lot of experience and with better coaching they, and the veterans will play better.

I would expect that worst case scenario, the defense rates somewhere in the 60-70 range.

If we can get to top 75, we'll be legit playoff contenders.

I expect this new defense to make mistakes but be aggressive.

Things that can't be fixed in a single offseason:
- depth
- # of reps

Things that can get fixed in an offseason:
- tackling
- angles
- scheme

With House it was mainly scheme oriented. Now with Baker will see a much more aggressive approach. That alone will improve about 30 spots.

Then the players really like Baker which will help with effort and tackling. Players had very little respect for House and it showed.

We will have a drop off in offense too. Jayden converted so many downs from his legs, we wont have that option. I'm hoping the improvement in Defense makes up for the drop off in offense with departing Heisman winner.
