Personally, I love that this is essentially an unintentional prequel to Blue Eye Samurai.

I believe that tract of land in Edo was for the tea house lady. In the show and book it’s because he recognizes her guile, intelligence, and attention to detail. In the book, I think she also convinces them by having a single district/guild the Willow World will be more organized and controlled
I don't want to toss spoilers, but anyone who is curious should look up her historical counterpart. She was very significant to Japanese cultural history.

It’s rare that I’d agree with a statement like this mid season but there is absolutely no show that makes me put my phone down and pay complete attention like this (subtitles excluded.) Nothing on television like this since GoT. Closest thing is Mare of Easttown, Stranger Things, and True Detective S1. Appointment television.

It’s so immersive

Sigh.

I think she will assassinate the queen or Ishido!

As long as my girl Fuji makes it, I'll be okay. She really grew on me this episode.

Man this show is so good. That ending was a lot sadder than it had any right to be. Felt like the Red Viper scene from GoT. Had it…and then nope.

I will say that as soon as we make it the finale, I plan on doing a binge watch so I can enjoy the whole thing at once.

except I liked the Red Viper waaaaay more.

I am interested in where this is going.

The Madam seems to think Toronaga has a plan than no one else seems to know about and he’s steadfast in keeping secret.

obviously the son has no idea.

I'd much rather a good shop drop one a week simply for discussions sake. This thread wouldn't be nearly as long as it is if they did. I don't think FX does drops any of their shows all at once anyway.

3 Body Problem dropped all at once and everybody here in the office is watching at a different pace and we can't even talk about it. We all are talking about Shogun the next day. I personally don't really have to time to truly binge a show. One or two episodes a night is a binge for me.

True I like the old way of 1 episode drop each week especially how long the episode is. Keep people more involved and more discussions like GOT.
I've watched the original James Clavell's Shogun on blue-ray and this new version is a lot better and better character developments. They do subtitle a lot better than that old version which I don't mind.
I wouldn't be surprise if there's a prequel/sequel spun from this show.

Another brilliant episode with only two (almost three) beheadings. I've forgotten enough of the book to be surprised by each episode. The casting and sets are absolutely brilliant. Every once in a while there is some cheap CGI, but I get the need for that. The costume budget alone must be ridiculous. I have 1. Mariko 2. Ochiba 3. Fuji 4. Kiku on the hotness scale. Would pillow them all with no hesitation.
