What is the latest OT theory on why Gen Z has no work ethic?

I am struggling right now with a couple employees. Might be finna fire one.
They sometimes seem afraid of interacting with other people and issues, and other times they act like they don't give a shite. Part of me thinks they're just dumb and don't understand what is expected of them, despite everyone around them working their asses off while they do not. What motivates these people?

Most have never really had to work for anything, it was given.
They dont equate their labor with the things in their lives.

not to hijack the thread, but this scares the shite out of me if we have to go to war any time soon.

Being raised on social media + lockdowns during a crucial stage of establishing one’s social identity really has left many zoomers extremely stunted socially. They appear aloof and uncaring because they don’t know how to communicate, so they just look disinterested. Many zoomers have social anxiety, so they may hesitate to pick up the phone to ask a question. This stems from how absurd schools have gotten about punishing students for being curious, reading ahead, showing initiative, brainstorming alternative solutions, or asking questions. They’ve basically been indoctrinated to follow orders and ONLY follow orders, and if there’s any grey area, do nothing and await further instruction. This is stupid, but blame our moronic schools.
In a new job, without adequate training and goal-setting by management, it can be difficult for employees to know what is expected of them. You don’t know what you don’t know, and you can’t ask if you’re not even aware of the issue.
My recommendation is more communication, less assumptions, and being incredibly direct about what you want and what is and isn’t acceptable.

I’m gen z and work long hours 6 days a week on a cattle farm. I’ll just say I was born in the wrong generation. People my age suck

we have trained them to be dependent but think they are independent

It’s not all of them, but it’s certainly a much higher percentage than any other generation I’ve been alive to see.

You’re going to have to weed thru many to find a diamond in the rough. They are out there, but it’s a process.

Not team Gen Z at all but I always chuckle at the parents of Gen Z complaining about how crappy they are. Well Karen, who raised those kids? Who taught them the values they have? Who ruined their work ethic with rampant enablement? Kids have been kids forever. No doubt Gen Z sucks, but my objection is to say look at the parenting tactics that brought up these bastards.

Every generation sucks in 2024. It's an entitlement problem and we all have it. Gen Z has just had it for all of their adult life, plus entitlement looks worse on the young.

Just had a gen z guy from work bail on doing something outside of work tonight because he forgot about someone stopping by his house tonight. No apology, no regard for my time (third time he's bailed on something), honestly pissed off right now at this sort of attitude from gen z'ers.

Parenting.
Next question.

Parents prob didn't discipline them and universities are now a woke-a-thon pushing college loan forgiveness?

Maybe they had shitty parents.

I saw a recent report estimating the average Gen Zer spends 9 hours per day looking at screens. Imagine how much development you would’ve given up in your teenage years if you spent that long transfixed on curated content. They simply don’t know what it means to be an adult, because in the years that they were supposed to be paying attention and learning how to navigate social situations, they were instead surfing insta for the next viral trend
I’m getting to the point where I find it more sad than frustrating… we failed to prepare these kids for adulthood

'Spare the Rod, Spoil the Child" sums up this GenZ

Spent tens of thousands of hours isolated on a phone, game console or computer.
