Why even engage in such a meaningless thing? It's just semantics. It's a made up word/phrase (in fairness, they all are, I suppose) with an arbitrary criteria that only fans of teams that were once considered one and are now slipping out of that status should care about it even in the slightest. I've seen LSU win 3 NCs, play for another, and have 2 Heisman Trophy winners in the past 21 football seasons. Could not give any less of a frick if Oklahoma or Nebraska fans consider us a "blue blood" or not.

Nor should UCONN fans give a frick what UCLA fans think about any kind of abstract club they do or do not belong in. Or Kentucky. Or Indiana. I doubt any UCONN would trade histories with them. The only ones they'd even entertain are Duke and UNC, and I doubt they'd trade with either of them at 11:05 am local this morning.

Honestly I wouldnt give a crap if I were Uconn. Just like I dont care about it with LSU. If people want to pump their chest about 50 y/o championships (looking at you ND) when we're winning and say we're "not a bluebood" then go for it bud. Wont change the fact we're winning.

We would have to define what makes a blueblood in any sport. The traditional definition of blueblood is sort of like the definition of old money vs new money. If someone is new money, they will never be old money until all the old money ceases to exist. As long as the traditional bluebloods in college sports linger it is difficult to displace them even if they are not as good anymore. We need a new term.

I’d Gonzaga a blue blood???? They make the the tourney every year… while UConn doesn’t make it every year.

The bluebloods are historical cheaters. They’ve rigged recruiting and tournament matchups toward an expected result. The bluebloods have taken turns wearing the crown.

Maybe UConn has been the reluctant successful outlier that is tolerated.

When a subgroup of schools with no pedigree like LSU attempt to step up, they are summarily dismissed with the full weight and power connections of the bluebloods.

Anybody saying UConn isn’t a blue blood is retarded, they were a blue blood before winning the last 2 imo

UConn has become a blue blood with these back to back titles. Heck they have more than Duke and Kansas and they are not done yet. More titles on they way for them.

Not just that, but winning NC's with 3 different coaches. I think having that level of success under 3 different regimes qualifies you as a blue blood.

Indiana should fall off due to lack more recent success. They haven't really been shite since Knight was ran off.

The blue bloods will never accept the Big East into their club. Do you not remember the 30 for 30 Requim for the Big East? Of course it turned out that ESPN trying to kill the Big East was one of the best things to happen to Big East basketball. The conference has won 4 national Championships since the conference split.

Kansas’s 22 title certainly helps them bc it gave them 4 but I’ve always looked at them kind of like Michigan football.
All the wins and conference titles in the world but so few titles compared to the other blue bloods and their titles are all so far apart. No cluster of titles together like the other blue bloods.
Not hating on Kansas bc they are a blue blood but I think they are one of the lesser blue bloods which is still great.

Idk...they've had plenty of runner-ups and Final Fours scattered throughout.

Conversely, UCLA dominated the 60's and 70's, but hasn't won the NC since '95, and had a few great teams (2006 - 2008, 2021) since then.

Kansas, to me, is firmly above UCLA. UCLA reminds me more of a Michigan football than Kansas.

The first two rounds of the tournament are over, no reason to discuss college basketball again until the first two rounds of next year’s tournament.

In my opinion, this should be the current list of Blue Bloods.

Tier I:

Connecticut
North Carolina
Duke
Kansas
Kentucky
Villanova

Tier II:

Gonzaga
Florida
UCLA
Indiana
Michigan State
Arizona

While UCON has achieved some success recently, this is the reaction of Duke. Kansas, and Carolina:

That’s all well and good, but if those schools don’t step their shite up they’re going to keep watching UConn run circles around them for the next 25 years.

UConn should not care about what some old school fans in NC or Kansas think about them. They have the best program in the country and have been that regularly for a quarter century now.

UConn has 6national championships with 3 different coaches 4 different decades.

That’s the epitome of a blue blood.

LSU football isn’t even anywhere near having the 3rd most national titles in football

One more would move LSU into a tie with OK for 4th place since integration. That's pretty near.

I think they do understand the concept but find it irrelevant in the 21st century.

Basically, when is UCONN is good, they're a REALLY good and win it all.

this is generous. there is an insane amount of luck involved. 6-0 is an incredible outlier.

last year they got a 5 seed in the final four and a 5 seed in the final. 2011 they got an 8 seed in the final. 2014 they got an 8 seed in the final. an 8 seed has made the final 4 times, they've drawn 2 of those 4. the next worst team to make the final has been 5 seeds. so, in 3 of their title games, they've drawn 3 of the worst 5 teams of the 25 years.

a 4, 7, and 3 seed are the lowest seeds to have won the tournament in the past 25 years as well. this is not uconn doing anything different than anyone else. this is luck.

1999, 2004, and 2024 didnt have as much "luck," but those are also their 3 best team that didn't need it. nothing against them as they have taken full advantage of that luck when other teams/programs have not.

does any of this matter? no, they fricking won them all, it's incredible. and none of this applies to this team this year, who is one of the best teams/seasons of the modern era.

They're not a blue blood. They're new money that's the richest guy in the world.

You have to have been relevant preferably at the beginning and at least at some point in the 20th Century.

There's new blood and blue blood.

UConn is nouveau riche...its not a pejorative, just a fact.
