Lotus Eaters delve into Baton Rouge/St. George

FF to 6:42 to get to the BR/St. George discussion

This is some pretty good stuff, but not so much for Baton Rouge, as all of the real ugly is front and center. St. George however is getting high marks.

I'm still trying to figure out what the incorporation of St. George is "leaving".

I mean, the area is still in EBR parish, right? They aren't all moving away, correct?

The stupidity of the argument boils down to “His momma called him Clay so I’m gonna call him Clay.”

The area has been called BR forever since it was the nearest city but it was never actually been incorporated.

I guess SWB is trying to claim BR as it’s common law wife and refusing to let them marry someone else despite being unwilling to put a ring on it.

Horrific public schools, complete apathy to crime and infrastructure, and a boarded commercial buildings as far as the eye can see with a sprinkling of nail salons, quick cash outfits, and the like to turn the wheels of a community.

I can confirm that my house isn't moving. It's still in the same place it was before the decision to officially change my address to St. George.

I know people are thinking of this on a racial basis, but is much more a class/economic basis where its ideology versus pragmatism. The reality is people who have higher economic status have learned to demand results for their hard earned money. If the current gov't of BR is not going to produce those results and tell these people go form our own city, then they are going to do that because they are producers and expect results for spending those tax dollars.

That might be the best way I’ve ever seen it explained. Good job!

I think this meme covers it.

And, to be fair, there are a lot of blacks who are leaving BR for LP, and AP for the same reason as whites do, to attain a better life for themselves and their families than the BR gives them, and that falls directly at the feet of those self destructive policies and mentalities that have destroyed the city, and proven time and time and time again to be utter failures.

When you care little for truly educating your children and giving them a chance at a better life to break long held cycles of self destruction, and you refuse to actually tackle crime head on, and allow your own city you live in to crumble around you, what else do you really expect to happen but it turn into a third world condition?

The difference however, and the reason for this piece is the condemnation that whites receive for not wanting any part of living in a gigantic poo poo hole while not placing that same condemnation upon any other race for doing likewise.

I can confirm my house is littery St. George's "City Hall."

My neighborhood is "Village St. George."

The "St. George Fire Station" is directly behind my house.

And the building where the organizers originally held their RALLY (as seen on Frontline)....i could throw a football and hit it from my backyard.

Sophie is a St. Geoge kitty!

LINK

Go to 3min 42 seconds and that's the building in my backyard.

Somewhere in the 11 min mark (11:34)...you can see my Senior photo...we were the white kids

Agreed and that is why I say it has nothing to do with race and everything to do with quality of life and security. It ultimately is ideology versus pragmatism. We have a bunch of ideologs running our gov'ts now, versus in days past there were pragmatist. Most people just want to be safe, take care of their families, give their children the best opportunity to succeed in life and see results for spending their hard-earned money regardless if its personal or gov't spending; regardless of their race. I personally do not think its any more complicated than that... Unfortunately, we have politicians now that will say and do anything to stay in power to exploit the system.

Didn't their camp make a big push to annex the Mall of LA and other revenue drivers that currently sit in unincorporated EBR Parish?

Smart move. What is astounding is it actually was approved. I wonder who paid who off. More need to do this.
