re: Is Shreveport Regional the worst airport in the world?

You go through TSA when they are loading the plane. The "lounge area" is just a room with vending machines from the 80s. I remember a guy on a business call and Cokes rolling through the coke machines while he was trying to talk.
Nice people and a nice area. But that airport is special.

LGA has been rebuilt, at least the Delta terminals. It's pretty damn nice. The air traffic on the other hand in and out of there can suck.

No. There are a few GA airports that are worse. Heber City Russ (KHCR) is bad. It has a single FBO with no competing airport serving Park City and Deer Valley. They don’t give a shite about the users.
SLC is not a bad airport.
You also have the new and nice 4 gate Provo Airport 42 minutes away which folks in Shreveport would kill for (some of them would also probably kill AT it, but that’s a different story).
So complaining about Heber City’s dinky airport doesn’t wash here brah when you’ve got viable close alternatives.

Every decent airport should have outlets galore, a fricking sandwich stand, and a bar. This is 2024.
Not if you dont have the pax to support them. Do you want Govt to subsidize your comfort?

seems like everything they offer is just garbage.
Since the late 80s. Prior to that, Shreveport was fine.
The former police chief tried to warn residents that gangs were taking over, the residents called the chief a carpetbagger from Illinois and chased him off.
Since then its been progressively getting worse.

I love the SLC airport and oddly the Bham airport. Both are smaller, but convenient and efficient. SLC just expanded and remodeled.

No one has mentioned the true goat airport of Louisiana, MLU. You can be from car to boarding area in less than 5 minutes and I am pretty sure they will just let you fly the plane if you want.

I’ve done a lot of touch and go’s in my flight lessons at Monroe. Looks like a great place to nab a plane.

Shreveport ‘s airports used to be very good. Awful management for last 15 years and now one of the most expensive commercial airports in the country.

Minot ND is the worst I have flown out of.
rental car parking is a grass field, the seating area for flights is compact and they have 2 or 3 gates, and not enough room for people to sit or stand if you have 2 flights waiting. was miserable having to stand in the ticketing area, and when boarding was announced, having to go through security just to be able to board.
Williston, ND was an interesting Airport to fly into - it was tiny, rental car lot was offsite, but no shuttle - had to walk a path through some woods to the grass area the cars were.

You’re lucky that you got off the plane. I got diverted from ATL to somewhere in South Carolina. It wasn’t even dark and the airport was closed. Sat on the plane for hours with the doors open for air circulation.
Yep. A few years back I was diverted to Louisville when headed to Atlanta. So were about 30 other planes. We all just sat lined up on the runway waiting to take off again, for several hours.

It’s not even close. Not a single outlet to be found and the food vending machine doesn’t work
I am sure you can find an outlet.
IMO an airport that you can get from your car to the gate in less than 20 minutes is damn good. That's why I love airports like BTR, OKC, and DCA. I have never flow into or out of Shreveport before, but I'm sure the airport is probably even more convenient than the ones I've listed. Maybe not as nice as those, but still super easy to deal with.
Fun story:
When American Airlines went on strike a couple of years ago, America's regional carriers did not go on strike. So they were shuttling people from hub to hub through cites like Grand Rapids, Baton Rouge, etc. which were not traditionally treated like hubs. I was flying out of BTR that day and I had never seen the terminal so busy before.
I asked someone in the little cafe where they were headed, and they said that they had a layover there and was going to Washington DC from Dallas. Kind of shocking because those are both big airports for American and BTR has never been a hub, has no Admirals club, and fairly limited amenities. But the airline was doing everything they could to route people that were stranded because of the American Airlines pilot strike.
I'm honestly surprised America's scheduling system could actually reroute people like that through alternative airports like Grand Rapids, Tulsa, or Baton Rouge. Good, creative way to problem solve on their part I guess.
So as much as I like little airports like BTR It would suck to be jammed into a small terminal for a layover like that. Just not enough restaurants, seating, etc.

It's a nice airport with surprising (well maybe not considering Walmart) direct flight options, but it's too far away from the cities and it's expensive AF to fly in/out of.
