Stats in 2014 through week 15* (league rank):
Completion pct: 70% (1st)
TDs: 31 (5th)
Rating: 101.4 (5th)
Yards: 4,358 (3rd)
Yards per attempt: 7.59 (9th)
Yards per game: 311 (3rd)
Source
*Note: Week 16 excluded for sake of comparison across league mid-weekend and is statistically immaterial due to stage of season

He's not average.
He's not better than Romo, either.
He's not top five anymore.

is top 5 in everything really what we'd call average, now?

Totally makes up for today.

How do these rankings equal "average, mediocre?"

Ummmm,
Isn't there a Board here about the Saints? Wouldn't you think this subject beings there?
Or because Brees played in San Diego does discussion of him belong here?

Top 5 in damn near every category and he's average/mediocre?
Posted on 12/21/14 at 6:50 pm to Lou Pai
He's top 5 in every statistic, but hes somehow mediocre.

Don't feel the need to justify a HOF QB to an Internet message board my man. Let it rest, come back strong next year

What I've learned so far in this thread: one man can't win for the shortcomings of a whole team. That's some deep shite there, fellas. Glad I could interpret it for you.

Look to his line. Brees is still very much elite. Everyone said Brady was done through 4 games when he looked awful. What changed since then? His offensive line improved dramatically and he got Gronk back at full strength.
This is a team sport. Give Brees an offensive line, and he would show you how elite he is. But he cannot block for himself or catch his own passes.
The fact that he is still so highly ranked in those major categories speaks volumes.
ETA: 5000th post - spent in worthy defense of a great QB

Why are so many of you idiots missing the point of the OP?

If he is in a system that will create more ints, doesn't that mean he is also in a system that creates more pass yards?

70% completion percentage with that many attempts is phenomenal. Plus Graham dropped quite a few and played hampered all season. Colston aging and cooks to IR with this shitty o line.. Brees was pretty damn good considering.

I've said before, I'll say again. He's not a HOF QB. He used to hold exciting records, but the best QB from his generation beat those records.
He's above average, and really good. He isn't all time great.
