Is banning Harry Potter from religious private schools a thing?

My friends kid was forced to change on a dress up day because he came as Harry Potter and he's sort of banned. Apparently they don't have the books in the library either. He pointed out that he saw a bunch of Elsa's from Frozen at school to the administration, so he just wanted to know which types of wizardry and black arts aren't allowed.

I think it's largely not a thing.

I had tutors when I was little for a learning disability. When they found out I had a thatry potter book , one of them freaked out and told my parents I was learning about Satan.

I'm sure it's just as prevalent as students needing safe spaces or protesting Halloween costumes. Which is to say it happens but it's just idiots.

I went to an Episcopalian private school in Baton Rouge from 2nd grade on and we had Harry Potter as one of the hundreds of options on our summer reading lists in middle school.

Harry Potter is a metaphor for the fight between good and evil in the world. If anything, the book should be encouraged to be read by religious authorities to reinforce the idea that there is good in this world and there is evil in this world.

Parents usually sign documents agreeing to these types of things before then even read them.

I have no idea if it is a thing, but it would not surprise me at all if it was. People will find something "insulting" about anything..
The mascot at my high school was/is "the green devils". There was a kid who lived a few doors down from me, whose parents (actually I think it was mostly his mom) who were big in a non denominational church so he went to a christian school. He wanted to go to HS with his friends, but his mom would not let him go to a school that had a devil as a mascot..

Not happening in Catholic schools.
We have a little accelerator reading program and the Harry Potter books are always among the most read

Holy crap if true. Was this a Catholic School? I mean, there is Christianity in Harry Potter. They mention Christmas break in the books

I attended public school, but my mother still took issue with the books. The entire concept of witchcraft and wizardry didn't sit too well with her. She associated it with the occult, and her conservative Christian values got in the way of her objectively assessing it as a valuable piece of literature.
I didn't read the first book until I was 20 years old, and that was only because it was assigned reading for an adolescent literature course I took at LSU.

Yes it's a thing. The only thing acceptable is banging students
