Gonna get shelled but find this album really boring and simple. You can do exactly what he’s doing with any artists catalogue ever made. The Cure could hire bluegrass musicians and just remix Disintegration. Feels like a money grab

No one wants to hear a cure bluegrass album. A shite load of people want a sturgill grass album. If it’s a money grab it’s well deserved.

I'll be more fine with this bluegrass album if he puts out some new stuff shortly after.

I like it...but still want new stuff.

I mean, I get what you mean here but the original intent (per Sturgill) was to release these songs how he originally wrote them. I've enjoyed the shite out of it thus far, especially the new ones.

Also, I'm now curious to hear a bluegrass Radiohead song.

I think he's giving the proceeds to charity.

Either way, he's doing this to finish out his current record contract. He hates his label.

Most bluegrass is. Kinda cool to hear his songs done in bluegrass, but don't see this one staying in my rotation for very long. A few standouts(I really like the Just Let Go and I Don't Mind), but most are forgettable.

Take a voice, some sell received songs, add in these guy's. . .

Mark Howard - rhythm & lead guitar
Scott Vestal - banjo
Mike Bub - bass
Sierra Hull - voc / mando
Tim O’Brien - voc / rhythm & lead guitar
Miles Miller - voc / percussion
Stuart Duncan - fiddle

. . . it'd be hard to not get something worthwhile.

Why the resentment?

He didn't put out a greatest hits for charity. He went exploring with his own music and if you don't appreciate it for what it's worth don't buy it. Guy likely grew up with this in his DNA and not simply clowning it up like a Cure sample would be.... And I'm not a Sturgill fan but after listening (to more) might start his collection with this one.

It’s to get out of his contract actually.

ETA: Per an interview from him although someone said this was on his own label.
