This is a great thread. Someone should compile the list with the number of votes beside each place.

I'd do it, but since I likely won't be going to NOLA this decade, I just don't have it in me.

Sadly, the only restaurant I've visited on any of those lists is Galatoires.
My wife does not appreciate fine dining and simply doesn't appreciate good food. She likes to hit the gym and is paranoid because her mother is overweight. Just about every time we go out to eat she orders grilled chicken or a salad and water. She literally cried once in a restaurant because I made her order actual food (I told her even if she ordered a salad, I was still ordering her a real meal). While I spend money like water, she is the thriftiest person I ever met - so if we go to Galatoire's she complains for a week about how much it cost.
Eating (and cooking) good food is one of my greatest joys. I will make it my life's mission to visit each and every restaurant listed in this thread if I have to drag my wife kicking and screaming, or go alone. Bookmarked this thread. FML.

There are a lot of very good restaurants though that have great food that don't fall into that fine dining category and is not as expensive. Nola had def. seen a trend with these kind of places over the last 5 years.

Her mom has a lot of health problems that contributed, but my wife's fear of becoming overweight is irrational. Trust me, she's into her 40s and still looking as good as the day I married her over 20 years ago. I constantly tell her I'd rather see her enjoy life and gain 20 pounds than miss out on one of life's greatest pleasures out of irrationality.
....Though don't think I haven't taught my son's the old adage about "look at your girlfriend's mother."

Pascal's Manale....known for BBQ shrimp but the oyster pasta is the best I've ever eaten.

Drago's in Metairie...Lobster Empire is the best deal in the city; 1.5 lb lobster stuffed with a very decent oyster pasta (yea, I kinda like oyster pasta!) all for $28.00.

El Gato Negro (the original on Harrison)...Rack of Lamb is the best in the city and the margaritas are quite good.

Venezia on N Carrollton Ave... Double Cut Pork Chop available on Thursdays, as good as Clancy's with a much better price tag. This is one of my all time favorite places.

Little Tokyo off Causeway Blvd...largest sushi menu I've ever seen. The food is fresh and the beer is cold. If you sit at the bar, you get a free squid salad that would cost you $6 or $7 anywhere.

I chose places that you can get out of for less than $35.00 per person....with a few beers!

The El Gato on Harrison is not the original. It was on Decatur first.
