Pour one out for Kin and Namese. Two solid spots pre Covid.

Good thread. I’ve heard good things about Luvi but never been. Can anyone here weigh in?

Luvi is more of a raw bar Japanese restaurant than a sushi place. Amazing food. My non-sushi wife loved it.

The feed me is amazing, the chef is very creative and every time I’ve been has been excellently executed. I like the dumplings, but the Dan Dan noodles weren’t the best. Overall it’s legit.

Favorite Asian food outside of Luvi:

Blue Giant
Wishing Town Bakery’s new location on Magazine
Daiwa (Metairie)

ETA: the food court Chinese place in Canal Place has the best egg drop soup I’ve ever had.

Dian Xin is opening on the corner of Exchange Alley and Conti.

I will be eating there much more. I do not like lower Decatur.

Their lemongrass wings are the best in the area, IMO.

Lot of good ones here.

Secret Thai in Chalmette is the big one I don't see already.

Le's Baguette behind Sacred Heart

Turmeric Indiana on the wank

Green Tea and Five Happiness are my OG go-to American-Chinese places

Mantra is awesome. Also if you journey up to Hammond, Punjabi is great.

Cho Thai and their sister Banana Blossom are both very good.

Pho Orchid and PO Express out in Metry

Yakuza is sushi that will rival the best in New York and Chicago. Do not expect rolls, cream cheese, tempura, etc... It is old school traditional sushi and it is amazing. Make reservations.

Here's a question...do the owners or chefs have to be asian for it to be an "asian restaurant"?

Thinking of Blue Giant. Its hipster Chinese Food and one of my favorite restaurants in the city, but the owners/chef are white.

(I'm not really serious with this question just throwing a molotov cocktail into the discussion)

Never had a bad meal here, probably my second favorite place. Service is pretty slow, though

Banh Mi Boys. I typically hate asian cooking except when it gets Americanized and the meatballs in their banh mi tastes and look like meatballs. Ive had some traditional banh mi and that shite is gross. Banh Mi Boys for the win.

I'm usually not a fan of places trying to be all this but I tell you it's right up there for me. I also really enjoy Mopho, Maypop, Marjies, etc... The people may not be what you expect in an asian restaurant but the food is delicious.

This is a fair question. I notice that places like Blue Giant are good food, but (a) they use "better ingredients" which don't always equate to better dishes and (b) that leads to a lack of heart in the dish that is usually covered up by a hipster vibe and lots of marketing.

Follow up question:

How authentic are whiteboy "better ingredients" spots? It's not American-Chinese comfort food like Five Happiness and it's not some hard-hitting authentic stuff like you'd find in Chinatown Chicago or New York. I have a couple friends that worked in Shanghai and they would not like Blue Giant.

I guess it depends. BG is significantly better for the most part than places like Five Happiness. On a totally different level.

Would probably not be anywhere close to as good as very authentic places in SF, NYC, chicago with large chinese populations.
