Here's a question...do the owners or chefs have to be asian for it to be an "asian restaurant"?

Thinking of Blue Giant. Its hipster Chinese Food and one of my favorite restaurants in the city, but the owners/chef are white.

(I'm not really serious with this question just throwing a molotov cocktail into the discussion)

On Blue Giants website it describes their food as "Chinese-American" and I think that is a fair description. It is mall Chinese done really well. If you were discussing authentic Asian food in NOLA it doesn't belong, but no way you can leave it out of a generalized thread on Asian food when it is putting out some of the best food in the city.

Irony is that he ran an asian popup and railed on Blue Giant and Red's for culturally appropriating.

Being that this is an Asian food thread, I do find it weird that nobody has mentioned any Indian or Lebanese places.

They are technically Asian but not what I think of when someone mentions Asian food. Lebanon Cafe is best Lebanese, and if we can include Turkish in this then Anatolia is solid. Kebab House in Metairie is best Middle Eastern place around.

I'm glad this thread was bumped so I could comment on it.

Has been on my radar for some time. I'll often find myself at American Sports Saloon just around the corner and have been eyeing this up. Next time, and thanks for the recommendation.

Has anyone tried Magasin Kitchen on Girod? I inteded to try it during this past trip but missed out. It's on my list as well.

Horinoya is missed very much, led by the only Japanese Chef that I knew in the city. All others are random Asians with a bamboo mat and cream cheese.

I had good meals at La Thai too, RIP, but that was years ago.

I liked Horinoya, too. I will say that I think Kanno, Luvi, and Yakuza are all very good.

Lately my new favorite is Em Trai on veterans. Pulled pork, fried shrimp, the Roti, tacos, ban mi, lemon grass pork is just the start. Really good food and reasonable.
