My wife once sealed our concrete floors without putting the actual charcoal filters on the respirator.

What a dumbass.

I once had a foot slip off a rafter and one leg go through the ceiling in the bedroom because I was running Ethernet.

I was once replacing a cord on a dryer and stuck it in the receptacle to see if it would fit before I grounded it to the dryer.

You don't make that mistake twice.

I made board and batten in a bathroom and shot a finishing nail into a copper pipe not once but twice in 2 different spots.
Was a very slow leak and took a while to figure out there was a problem. Had to change out wood floors in the room next to the bathroom.
One was so close to the slab I had to chisel out the concrete so the plumber could change the pipe and I couldn't use a shark bite fitting. I didnt trust my self to make a leak proof repair.

I forget which hurricane it was but any type of torrential rain event, my chimney used to leak. So I decided to hurry up and cover the chimney with a 55 gallon trash bag and duct tape. Getting on the roof in 30mph winds was my first mistake. Anyways I get up there and when I started to walk I realized I had Crocs on. I was like no I'm taking this shite off. So I get to the chimney with my bag and duct tape in one hand and my crocs in the other. I tape it all up and turn around to go back to the edge of the roof. I step back in my crocs I had set down by the chimney. I take one step then start croc sliding down the roof. I never stopped and hit the ground. How I didn't break anything is still a mystery.

Cleaning my pool out decided to pressure wash it empty. Drained it. Next morning popped up out of the ground. Busted all the surrounding concrete and all the plumbing, and sits at a funny unfixable angle.

Tried to catch a mosquito, stupidly used my office rolling chair, fell and pulled down the blinds and the chair punched a hole in the wall

Same here.

Loud noise, vision goes pitch black, thrash metal in ears... probably would have taken me a minute too.

Running Cat5 cable in the attic to a bedroom. Had to drill through two fire blocks in the wall. Thought I was straight up and down with my 6 foot drill bit. Found out from my wife screaming what the F are you doing multiple times that infact my drill bit was at just enough angle to bust through the foyer wall. Had to patch that and then paint the entire wall bc the leftover paint we had didn’t blend.

I was replacing some sheetrock after moving plumbing for new vanities. I didn't mark my pipes and put a sheetrock screw dead center of the hot water pipe coming out of the slab. I wasnt able to put a collar on the pipe so I had to call a plumber. Added $200 to my bathroom remodel cost.

I too am guilty of the garbage disposer drain plug! And guilty of stepping through the ceiling while getting Christmas stuff down.

One mistake I made that does pop in my head isn’t home related but auto related. I decided to change the fuel filter in my wife’s car. How hard could it be right? Pop the two release tabs and replace with the new one? Well I learned really fast that you have to disconnect the battery 1st!!! That fuel pump kicked on and covered me and my garage floor with gas! One spark and me and my house would have toast.

Garbage disposal quit working, went bought a new one hooked it up had it running and everything. Felt so proud of myself, first home repair I ever did, the wife thought I was awesome. Even made the comment that her dad could never fix stuff around the house when she was growing up and it always pissed her mom off, part of the reason they got divorced. Anyway, while taking the old one out to the garbage and I noticed a small red button looking thing on the bottom, googled it, sure enough a reset button. Went ahead and plugged the disposal in pushed the reset, disposal came right on.

Went ahead and proceeded with disposing of the disposal, never mentioned it to the wife. just pretended like I never made the discovery.

This is fantastic and so relatable. I would've done the exact same thing

Decided to be proactive and change ac capacitors. Bought a new multimeter for testing them. Got all setup and changed one unit’s capacitor and tested the other. Both of my central units were microfin style, so the grill surround comes totally off. Decided I was tired of not having all the screws to hold on the grill and cover and previous homeowner had different type of screws in both units. Saw the storm clouds and hurried to the shed and grabbed the two shortest sheet metal screws I had and drove them right in to the aluminum collection headers of both condensers.

Had to replace one outside condense me cause the freon evacuated in about 10 minutes. Other screw is still holding strong after a couple of months but the compressor is going out. Tried explaining to the wife how me saving money by replacing my own capacitors cost me a couple grand for a new outside unit.

Fell down the the attic walking between floor joists and put my foot through the ceiling drywall. Repaired it but it doesn’t look great.

I was only like 12 but I had been painting the soffit on my parents house and was covered with oil based paint. I had the bright idea I would just take a jug of gas into the shower with me to help clean the paint off. Hot water, steam, and gas fumes... it was all I could do to make it to the door and get out of there.

I have 3 circuit breaker boxes. I needed to run a new circuit in my workshop and told my wife I was going to cut the power to the breaker box and that her oven wouldn’t work. I flipped the breaker in the main panel to isolate the breaker box. I installed a couple of double breakers to make room and installed a breaker and new circuit. Went to the main panel, flipped the power back on and told my wife she could use the oven again. She said it never went off. I did all that work in a live breaker box. Flipped the wrong breaker at the main panel. All worked out, but sure was stupid and dangerous.

I did the same thing. It was a basement bathroom for me, and instead of 2 holes, it was 3. I hand drove 3 2-inch finishing nails into the same high pressure copper water line trying to nail up some ceiling trim. Cut the water at the street before major damage occurred. I fixed it using strips of heavy rubber and stainless steel hose clamps. Those repairs have held for over a decade, but they are still always in the back of my mind making me nervous.

I inspected a house in Florida. Buyer was from Michigan. Everything was OK on the inspection. Two months later I got an irate phone call. "My water bill is $345 what is going on?

"I'll go back and look. Did you change anything when you came down to close on the home?" "NO"

Arrived and noticed immediately that the pond was now running ...Water fall was active. Turned off the water shutoff to the home and checked the meter .....still spinning like a top. Shut off the water to the pond. Meter stops at the curb. Turned it back on and checked the overflow at the end of the filter and pump. Started laughing ......The bulb to the water valve was stuck in the on position. Called the owner back. "I found the problem and now have to change my pants." "Why?" "Because when I found the problem I sat down to laugh and found myself in a puddle of water below the grass around the pond. Sand saturated but the grass will be really green this summer. I have to make a phone call." "Why?" "To fix your stupid mistake Jack, you told me nothing had been changed. You owe me dinner when you get back." Two weeks later he called ...."my water bill just arrived it was changed from over 340 to 115. Why?"
"I called them and told them water usage was to refill the pool that been drained .... different charge for pool water. Another dinner Jack."

Noticed a leaky fitting on the washing machine inlet line. Figured, I'll just go buy some new hardware and change it out. No big deal.

Bought a pipe wrench and everything. 1... pipe wrench.

Turned the water off, put the wrench on and twisted... the copper.

That's when I realized how soft copper is, and how naive I was.
