Didn't Etling say that they were running some of the old playbook from 2016 at one point last season. If so, that is another example of unconscionable decision making by Orgeron.

But he's changed his ways!

He did say that Call me naive or hopeful or whatever, but I just can't see Orgeron handcuffing him all season. It's possible I just don't want to believe it, but it just doesn't make any sense.

Than Maryland???
Well... that's the point. We're LSU, they're Maryland. They haven't been decent since Boomer Esiason was there, and that was still just an 8 win team.

If you were going to be 100% fair, you have to handicap this just based on program status. Spot LSU 2-3 wins, just because "status". So 8 wins here = 5 or 6, there.

If both teams finish with the same record, then Canada did better.

It would be hilarious if the playoff teams are Maryland, Texas, Texas A&M, and Michigan (with Miles after Harbaugh gets run off for a scandal).

Crowton was shitty. You have a very short memory of our offense before he left

Well yeah, but I don’t think that’s what vet was saying. He made it sound like O just winning more games than Canada would mean something

Maryland even getting a bowl game would pretty much equal LSU getting a NY6 bid.

They would be huge successes.

Given everything that is going on at MD even just matching last year’s conference win total should probably be considered a good year.

2007 offense was badass. Other than that he was trash.

Which is why I said I think it was more Miles than Crowten after '07. Same as with Cam after '13. Those guys didn't just decide to stop being diverse after those years IMO.

To be fair, I remember Oregon fans saying they loved Crowton at first, but they were happy to see him go after year two. When he was HC at BYU, they almost busted the BCS in his first season, then he had losing records the rest of his tenure.

Not saying Les didn't have an influence over the situation after 2007, but Crowton has never seemed to last more than a couple years anywhere, for whatever reasons.

Lasted only a year I think at Maryland after LSU. There’s a reason he’s been in Canada and SFA the last few years. But I know working for les couldn’t have helped.

Those are very good points. Like most things, the truth is probably somewhere in the middle. I certainly wasn't trying to say that he was some great coach or anything. I do like the '07 championship though.

He learned from a good interim coach at least

Can you imagine the melt here if he actually takes them to a bowl?

I'm hoping for LSU vs. Maryland in the national semifinals.

I think Crowton tends to do well when working off of someone else’s system. When he tries to fully implement his own, he falls apart.

There was a ton of talk before 07 that he was using a lot of Jimbo’s sets and terminology so as not to start over with a 5th year guy in Flynn. He was very successful calling plays from the base Jimbo O and adding a few wrinkles.

But the following year when he tried to implement his own full system he couldn’t do it and kept asking Lee to do things he clearly couldn’t execute.

The Oregon article seemed to indicate that’s a pattern of his and appeared very prophetic after things played out in Baton Rouge.

God that 08 season mind fricked the hell out of miles. One wonders how his offense would have gone after that wihthout all the pick sixes.

Well this is an interim year so we won't be able to judge him until year 3 of his permanent tenure,

That seems like the fair thing to do.
