The LSU gymnastics coaching staff will remain intact after the University of Georgia targeted Jay Clark and his assistants to return to his former school in the wake of the Tigers’ first national championship, according to sources with knowledge of the situation.

Raises and new contracts are in store for Clark and assistants Garrett Griffeth, Courtney McCool Griffeth and Ashleigh Gnat, sources said. Details have not been announced.

Maybe they should have never fired him to begin with and they wouldn't have to come back begging looking like morons. Comes off pretty pathetic, although their AD is an LSU grad and very good guy.

Or, Clark never had any real intentions of leaving but simply used the UGA opening as leverage to negotiate a big raise at LSU.

I would if I were him.

His market value, especially at LSU, may never be higher than it is right now. Which means his negotiating leverage is at it's highest. LSU could probably call his bluff in most negotiations. But with the UGA job being open and him being a Georgia native, LSU has to at least consider he MAY be more interested in that job that just about any other.

Ultimately, Jay gets a big raise and gets to stay where he wants to be. It's good to be at the top of your profession and have a high market demand.

LSU pays when they need to, case and point- LSU paid DD more than OU Coach even after Kindler had won 4 NCs and we had none! Scott doing work

UGA gymnastics in the same spot as Tenn Women's basketball
They keep firing their own people and repeat and recycle

LSU made the same mistake with Smoke Laval until figuring out their are other good coaches that have no ties to LSU and both have natties

Really you can't blame GA for trying. Glad both Jay and his staff are staying. This is just getting started. He has full support of Tiger Nation. Continue getting top recruits every year and the program will continue to grow. P.S. go get superstar FR Lily Smith at GA to transfer to LSU.

What did he do in 1997 the only year he wasn’t coaching according to this list. Shrooms?

In other words, his agent wanted to make sure that the post-natty raise was adequate.

You mean winning a natty wouldn’t be leverage enough. Haha

I was thinking the same thing about Pat Henry; of course, that was with Skip as AD.

LSU gymnastics is probably a money maker and could cover a good raise for Jay at this point. His salary is $275K which doesn't seem that high to me. He probably can get a nice bump with some bonuses for winning conference and national championships.

This is sort of a big deal as all coaches outside of Gnat are UGA alumni, with McCool having been on multiple nation title teams there.

I think with Pat Henry it was more about facilities. He wanted to upgrade the track facilities and Bertman told him to get stuffed. So he walked.

The guy just won a national championship. That is his leverage.

I mean, I wouldn't be THAT upset if she left.
