It's worse than Trumps 2 scoops!

Meg Wochnick of The Colombian has details on what wound up being Kelly’s final recruiting trip with Notre Dame and perhaps his most memorable.

Those must have been some damn good burnt ends or some pretty good burnt ends but served in small portions.

Just when I thought the sports media coverage of Kelly to LSU couldn't get any more absurd.

This story should put to bed the lazy recruiter storyline, right, as he was recruiting for Notre Dame right up until he made LSU official.

This media hate for Kelly is the weirdest thing I've seen in sports. I keep seeing people posting that it's about the media's love for Notre Dame, and blah, blah, blah. I know, they do love them some Notre Dame, but they also love them some USC, and I don't remember Pete Carrol getting this much hate for leaving them for the NFL. Maybe they did, and I just didn't care enough to remember it.

This is just bizarre. The guy spent 12 years there. It wasn't like Saban signing a bit fat contract with LSU and then leaving the very next year, having spent only five years there. I always think it's low of coaches when they sign big contracts and then just bolt. This Kelly situation isn't like that, at all.

Frankly, I was, and still am very lukewarm on the hire. I just don't know what he has in the tank at 60 years old, to do this kind of job. Maybe it's a lot. We'll see. But you have to admit that it takes some guts to walk away from a cushy job where people are happy to accept just not sucking (what a mindset), and walk into the SEC at a place like LSU where the expectations are boiling over at all times.

We saw how quickly Saban gave up on the NFL, when he saw it wasn't as easy as he hoped it'd be, and we see how Urban Meyer can't stay anywhere for long. Kelly gave it 12 years, and has unquestionably taken a better AND more difficult job.

About as much as Saban did at 57 when he went to Bama?

You downvoted me because of that?

I knew someone would bring up Saban's age, because it's the most predictable non-argument out there. How many Nick Saban's can YOU count, smart guy? I SPECIFICALLY said I "don't know" what he has in the tank. I'm not sure part of that sounds to you like "this guy is definitely done". A lot of coaches reach the age of 60 and they just don't have the energy to deal with teenagers' crap anymore, or at least not enough to be competitive.

Brian Kelly is already said to be not the most involved recruiter out there, whereas Saban is addicted to it.

The difference between Saban and Kelly is that Kelly likes to golf, Saban doesn’t. So Kelly will retire earlier than Saban so he can still play whereas Saban only loves coaching and will do that until he dies

If you ever have the hankerin' for the world's best burnt ends and you're in the neighborhood, stop by The Butcher BBQ Stand in Wellston, OK on Route 66.

You're hard pressed to find better barbecue anywhere in America.

You cook a brisket, cube the point end, then sauce it and cook it a bit, sauce it, and cook it a lil more. After that you can sauce it again or eat as is.

One recent trend this year has been "poor man's burnt ends" where you do the same, but with a pork shoulder.

Sam Pittman is 60 - 18th in recruiting and had a top 25 class last year. I think after finishing with likely 10 wins this year, he'll pull a couple more 4 star recruits to solidify a top 15-20 class, at Arkansas.

Mack Brown is 70 - 8th in recruiting with two 5 stars and nine 4 stars

Both 5 stars are in the top 10 (#2 defensive tackle, #1 offensive tackle). He has a top 8 WR and top 8 RB. Has 9 guys in the top 200 recruits. Last year he pulled in a 5 star DL, a top 60 overall recruit at QB, 5 guys in the top 140 recruits and 7 in the top 210.

If we can get Lebby and either retain Jones at DC or make a great DC pick (there are several to go for), it'll be easy to wrap up a top 7 class.

Saban loves gulf. He especially loves to cheat playing gulf.

The Alabama football coach is insanely competitive at everything, which comes as a surprise to absolutely no one. He is crafty in his relentless pursuit of victory, no matter what the competition may entail. Even on the links, Saban is always trying to outsmart his adversary, no matter how sneaky it may look.
