And my point was to say that being incredibly predictable isn't a good thing in competitive sports.

That was the point i took from the OP. The play itself is fine. Les tended to use it a little too often in the opinion of both the OP and myself. It became very predictable.

I think you'll see a great deal of creativity from the new OC. For that, we should all be happy.

Steven Ridley, Jeremy Hill, Terrance Magee, Leonard Fournette, and Derrius Guice all did just fine with the toss dive. Heck, even the Patriots run it from time to time.

The OP said RIP toss dive. How did you take that away? You jumped into an argument that wasn't being had.

Devastating defeat lol.

Again, the coach calling plays has the job of mixing plays to keep the defense off balance. If you think we did that, then that's your opinion. Our offense was stale and predictable.

I'm sorry it still hurts you guys to know that Les is gone. I hope you all enjoy watching our new dynamic offense. One team one heartbeat

I'm glad Les is gone. Stop with the assumptions, concrete thinker.

Wait. You do realize that we ran more variation of plays and use more formations than most teams under miles right?

You do realize all these spread teams and hunh teams run far less variations of plays, right?

Those great Chip Kelly offenses ran the same exact play 50% of the time.
Chip Kelly's oregon running plays consisted of 4 plays.

You know this right?
Cfb is about execution.
Coaches dont have the on field practice time to be implementing all these new plays every week.

Youre right for the most part but one can alleviate some of this by getting the exchange off deeper in the backfield holding the LBs longer and allowing OL to get to the second level or pulling OL to get down the line. At the same time if your OL isnt holding up well,"my guys are NOT bigger than your guys", then the DL has even more time to get off blocks and get a TFL.

Like I said, this hearkens back to the Les Miles philosophy of beating the man across from you. Thats a really simplified and dumbed-down version of football that doesnt give you any chance against a well disciplined team with equivalent or better guys on the lines.

Teams that run spread, HUNH, motions, trick plays, etc. do so because it levels the playing field when you dont have the oxes in the trenches to mach up with your opponent. This concept was completely foreign to your favorite former LSU HC and thats why he always beat the weak teams and had trouble against the strong teams.

I actually like the toss "off tackle". The "toss dive" not so much. But I think most people think these are one in the same.

I was commenting on the play with context of application. I'm sorry. I didn't realize this thread was for concrete thinkers only.

I don't mind the toss dive. What I do mind is stubbornly, mindlessly, and consistently running toss-dives at defenses built to stop toss-dives (BAMA).

I'm the one the who brought context to the thread lmao. You took the OP so literal, it's pointless discussing it further

I hope Canada calls a toss dive as the first play from scrimmage for Pitt's bowl game vs Northwestern

Lmao. Ok Rick.

I'm sure the toss dive will still be part of the play book. Rest easy

Very true. But when it's your most run play, % goes up for big plays. Also netted loss of yards plenty of times too. If not 1-3 yards
