The same conviction he had giving Cousins $180M?

Yeah, genius, Cousins will be retired. Penix will be the starter.

Why is it not a pick for another team? We don't know. They drafted tradeable value. Dude can spin it, we saw it last year. The NFL isn't just about filling needs, its also about acquiring commodities. He was the best player on the board @ #8.

Many NFL experts have seconded my instant take in the draft thread that it was the worst draft decision in NFL history.

Atlanta GM has an NFL job. Lombardi is unemployed and was fired by 4 teams.

Has anyone come to rhe conclusion that Atlanta does not know what it is doing either with signing Cousins or drafting Penix.

Consider this. Cousins is coming off an Achilles injury. Those injuries are hard to come back from. Dez Bryant popped his in practice with the Saints and it ended what was left of his career. In Basketball Demarcus Cousins ruptured his and it basically ended his NBA career....he's playing in Taiwan now.

Most who have had this injury have seen their careers negatively impacted and shortened even after surgery.

With Penix.....2 ACL surgeries and shoulder surgery. If he is forced to scramble much, he's a liability because he becomes injury prone and not having a decent to good line makes him a sitting duck.

So Arthur Blank has committed at least 150 million guaranteed to 2 QB's that are really high risk on the injury end. Prices at Home Depot getting ready to go up along with GameDay concessions at the Mercedes Benz Dome.

He was only ranked that low due to his past injuries.

Durability, especially for a QB, is almost as important as physical talents. It’s even more important for a QB than for other positions. If your left guard goes down, you just plug in another left guard and you can manage. If your QB goes down, you’re usually in trouble.

Penis has a history of major injuries. Doesn’t mean he’ll get another one but you have to consider injury history when drafting a player.

He has been healthy for the last 2 years. That also coincided with him becoming more of a pocket passer and running only when necessary.

Yeah, people saying Penix’s skill set is that low are just silly and blinded by other factors. He’s going to be a good one.

I just don’t see this pick after opening up the checkbook TO THAT EXTENT (emphasis on that for differentiation) for Cousins. If you’re going to do A, B becomes problematic because I am not sure Penix is the guy you want to serve a significant apprenticeship. .

It's definitely a gamble.

It's either going to pay off in '26 with Penix taking over and setting the league on fire and pretty much everyone having to eat crow or its going to backfire spectacularly. There is no middle ground w/this

Yeah I’ve tried to dance around it without coming right out and saying the obvious.

IMO Penix will be a winning QB in the NFL. The question as to for who and for how long remains open.

You’re right no one really knows, least of all message board posters. i don’t think it’s a bad pick because i don’t like Penix, i think it’s unbelievable stupid because they just signed Cousins to a pretty big deal. They are either going to waste prime years for Penix who is already 24, have an extremely expensive back up or eat a massive amount of dead cap space. It shows a complete lack of vision or a coherent plan by the first office to do both moves. They had the 8th pick, if they wanted a QB they could have signed a cheap bridge QB like TB did last year. It’s gross incompetence to do what they did.

He's done it plenty of times on the GM Shuffle.

Danny O just can't catch a break.

Lombardi has been giving the Falcons front office the business lately though. Ever since they passed on Belichick. He's convinced Rich McKay is still very much involved in a lot of the discission making.

The draft is a crapshoot. There will be multiple players who were drafted 1-7 before Penix who will be busts. Everyone is bagging on the Falcons because it’s easy. But in a year from now when Dallas Turner is providing little to his team and Caleb Williams is Justin Fields part 2 and all those stud WR’s have the same stats as a 3rd rounder will anyone come back and say Penix was an alright pick? Nope.

The 4 players I would have taken before Penix are Daniels, Nabers, Alt, or Mims. The rest are all question marks. So taking Penix at 8 is the same lottery ticket as the Bears taking Williams. The Patriots easily made the worst pick in the draft. Maye is not it. I saw that dude play in person several times and he did nothing to raise the level of UNC. He just benefited from that offensive system like Howell did.
