They were scary good talent-wise, but something was just not right. They had NFL players all over the roster and should have been unbelievably dominant. However, they got exposed against both LSU and Auburn.

Was there a locker room chemistry issue? Something had to be wrong internally.

Maybe nothing was wrong and the GOAT LSU team was just better

They couldn’t handle Auburn either. Your statement does not explain that.

2019 LSU is an all time great team and 2019 Auburn was no slouch either, defense held LSU to its lowest point total of the season. Tua had surgery before the LSU game but still played, and pretty well aside from that pick at the end of the 1st half and that random fumble on the first drive. But then was out for the season with that hip injury against the cowbells. Mac Jones wasn't ready for the moment and threw 2 pick sixes against Auburn IIRC

Auburn was at the end of the season after they already took the L vs LSU… their motivation might have been an issue with nothing to play for

Wrong. They could have still made it into the College Football Playoff in front of Oklahoma.

Something is seriously wrong with their team if they weren’t motivated.

Also, you probably don’t understand the Iron Bowl if you think either Alabama or Auburn would ever be unmotivated and unprepared for that game.

I think you just answered your own question…the explanation is that it was the Iron Bowl. There’s nothing unusual about Auburn beating a good Bama team.

Especially in Jordan Hare when Bama's QB is making his first SEC start.

It was just one of the worst teams Saban had at Bama. Bad defense and then Tua got hurt.

Yet Alabama still scored 41 points. LSU gave up 38 points to Vanderbilt that season. A bad Texas team scored 38 points.

Sure they were arguably the best offensive team in college football history but the 2003 and 2011 defenses were better than 2019.

And then the 2020 Alabama team outdid everything LSU did statistically the previous year.

That offense was something to behold.

Cool. You’re not much better, but neither statement is very relevant to this thread.

Defense wasn't great the previous year, and there was something like 4 injuries to the 2-deep at Iinebacker in Spring and Fall camp in 2019. 'Bama was starting true freshmen who would never see the field outside of special teams or garbage time the rest of their careers. Shane Lee was the best example. Slow and just not ready for the responsibility that Saban put on his ILB to call the defense. Combine that with the anal wart that is Pete Golding at DC, and the results were not good.

I remember the defense getting worked by a 4-8 South Carolina team early in the season until the offense put the game away. That was the case for most of the games that year.

Jordan-Hare voodoo (a pass bouncing off Najee's back at the 1 for a 99yd pick 6) and no Tua in the Iron Bowl pretty much sealed it. LSU would've probably won a rematch in the playoffs anyway, but Saban with a month to gameplan would've made it interesting at least.

Hope that helps.
