They are over-seeded by 2-3 seeds every time they have a solid team. I don’t get why they keep receiving the benefit of the doubt every year playing in the PAC 12.

Were they ever that great of a basketball school? Their entire basketball history was predicated on the success of one coach.

This team wasn't any good. Completely overrated and everyone who had watched them knew they were fraudulent.

It's like they're properly rated from November to February, but overrated in March.
Being the best team out west probably explains some of this. The Tournament is divided into four geographic quadrants and while the other three usually have stiff local competition, there is usually not a lot of great teams from the West.

Not to derail the thread, but Arizona seems like it would be a cool place to live.

No, that would be Gonzaga and the media love they get every single season.
Arizona has won a national title. Gonzaga on the other hand, plays the weakest conference competition year in and year out and has nothing to show for it after having their knobs slobbed every season by the media.

In the conversation of a National Championship, would agree about Gonzaga. However, do think they deserve some love for the nine-consecutive Sweet 16s, which is T-3rd longest ever. Not an easy thing to do, especially when you consider next best is Houston with five. No other program has a multi-year streak right now.

They've made 9 consecutive sweet sixteens, 5 elite eights, 2 final fours and 2 Championship games in 9 years. They simply havent won a title.
Name other schools that can match this currently.

Yeah they were the betting favorite in the region over UNC. Always choke. I don’t really follow the teams themselves but do follow the rankings. Clemson I hadn’t seen play but seemed so blah coming into it seemed like a team that would make early exit-6 seeds don’t usually do much, hot UNM team, a down year for ACC. That script flipped

I remember when they completely gagged in the final minutes against Illinois in 2005 elite 8
They haven’t been the same since
You do know that there are approximately 0.00 players, coaches and staff still hanging around from that team, right?
So what happened in 2005 has absolutely zero to do with what happened in 2024
