It never hit me until hearing the Rewatchables with Michael Mann that Vincent (Pacino's character) is basically suppose to be on coke the whole movie.

Once you realize that... His entire performance makes sense.

I, too, listen to this podcast. And it may be my favorite ever. YouTube recommended The Town episode to me—I guess cause I like Rusillo and movies and the algorithm put 2 and 2 together—and absolutely loved that episode. And I’ve devoured almost all the episodes in the past 3 months or so. And I never liked Bill Simmons before, but have a newfound respect for him now. Him and Chris Ryan love them some Heat.

Anyway, the pod made me go back and watch Heat for the 1st time in probably 10 years, and I want to kick myself for waiting that long between watches. It’s so good, and it’s incredible how well it holds up after almost 30 years now.

I'm angry. I'm very angry, Ralph. You know, you can ball my wife if she wants you to. You can lounge around here on her sofa, in her ex-husband's dead-tech, post-modernistic bullshite house if you want to. But you do not get to watch my fricking television set!

Just FYI I think Best Buy has the physical 4k disc with UHD digital code for like $7.99 right now.

I never realized that Heat was more or less based on real people and real events. Wiki goes into some detail about it.

Yep. Most realistic shootout scene in cinema.

I heard Mann works with a British SAS guy for his tactical scenes. All of his movies standout in this area even Miami Vice and Blackhat.

And although it’s not on the same tier I like thinking Den of Thieves as a sorta sequel or part 2.

I had a late dinner at the restaurant scene one night in 2007, Kate Mantellinis. Now closed. We had just seen a John Prine concert, sat next to Kenny Smith and pissed next to Dwight Yokam. Weird night

Blew me away at the theater. I had no clue that was coming and then wow. That scene still rings as my favorite audio in a movie. I'd love it to be back in the theater again.

A friend, who was a LAPD officer at the time, was a technical advisor on the film (he's currently a motivational speaker). He was the cop at the end of the film at LAX where Pacino asks him for his shotgun as he's looking for the DeNiro character. At a tailgate at the 2000 Rose Bowl he had some great stories about filming the movie and about being an LAPD officer during the 1992 LA riots specifically.

So I watched it….. shooting scene was cool but I don’t get the hype. Yeah they did some real looking reloads and stuff but don’t see the hype on realism.

I didn’t like Al Pacinos character at all. Seemed like he was cracked out. His story was good though. Loved de niros character. He was almost the perfect bad guy but had that one flaw of “having to get revenge”.

Movie was good overall though. Now, I am obviously watching it way past it’s prime and that could be a big reason I thought was just good. I bet it was innovative and revolutionary for its time.

I thought it would have probably been a better movie if Deniro had sniped Pacino but then been taken out himself. More of a Departed type ending since both men were seeking death in their own ways
