quote:True, but it wasn't an opinion. They were just talking about characters and events that are in the movie. Many other reviewers have since said the same things.
I couldn’t imagine seeking this douche for any opinion other than “how to live in denial about male pattern baldness”

He used to be independent minded and I enjoyed listening to some of his takes......then around 2019 he garnered a large right wing audience for his stance against wokeism. Every other segment became this cringe bullshite
The left wing mob will take away your freedom and lead us to Civil War....but I dont know I could be wrong.
He is a still fair debate moderator but he comes across as disingenuous and just playing for the views in most of his content now.

A lot of reviews saying the ending is stupid and just cuts off. Hoping it doesn't bother me that much. Going to see first omen today and civil war tomorrow

You can see the ending coming

Tim Poole just saw it. Apparently, Trump (basically) is president, he has disbanded the FBI and DC is held by white supremacist stormtroopers. The boogaloo boys shoot at the cops, rednecks are everywhere, the only extremists the main characters encounter are right wingers, the military force that restores order is comically diverse and they kill pseudo-Trump in the White House.
It's basically The Godfather for pink haired psycho retards.
Yeah, that's more of what I expected. The idea that hollywood would make a Civil War movie in an election year when Trump was on the ballot... and it just be an ambiguous story with no clear sides, always struck me as highly unlikely.

Wait is it really that unoriginal or is this major hyperbole? I’m apolitical and don’t give a shite about politics but the rampant Trump parallels and white supremacy subplots in movies/series that have come out over the past several years have become so tiring and banal. If it’s another one of these then I won’t waste my time

i mentioned this in the other thread but its interesting that most of the negative reviews are coming from more left wing types that are upset that its so apoltiical and not drawing more direct parallels to the current political landscape. I think Garland main point in making one of the factions California and Texas was to portray the factionalism without making about red vs blue. My interest in the film is really that I just love Garland's other work.

Yet this movie was portrayed as white people bad and their president is a fascist.
This is basically a movie to warn you what happens if you vote for Trump. It’s a left wing fantasy.

The tyrannical President is played by a guy best known for playing a parody of a conservative on Parks and Rec...apparently likes red ties, too. Villains are reportedly mostly of the white, redneck variety and what passes for the "good" faction is also the most diverse. Protagonists are "journalists". Sounds pretty predictable.

Wow I hats off to Garland then for not pumping out the same low hanging fruit.

He’s in the movie for like 3 seconds. Outside of like 5 lines we have zero context to his political ideology, what lead to the war, or what happened during it.
The only direct reference in the movie to anything real world is the passing mention of an antifa protest and not in a positive context

Again the entire point is that they aren’t setting a “good” and a “bad” side. They deliverabley subterfuge that. You usually don’t even know which side is which in the scenes. The characters don’t pass moral judgement on political decisions, but do weigh their own moral judgements of the horrors of war and being the people who document that
you could simply watch the film and form your own opinion. That would be my suggestion, crazy as it might be.

Im going to see it tomorrow so I cant say you are wrong but from what I understand there are four factions at war. So its not red vs blue. And considering one of the factions is California and Texas it doesnt really reflect on the current political factioning in our country. If any thing its sounds like a warning against authoritarianism and extremist factions which can come from the left or the right.
I suspect many folks view of the film will be like the dark side hole on
Dagobah. You will see what you take with you.

No it doesn’t. You’re looking for things to piss you off.
There’s literally a scene of blacks and Asians fighting against Hispanics.
They show black people melting another black man on fire.
Jesus Christ people on this site are miserable fricks

I took it as Cali and Tx both just wanted to secede but separately. Taking over the US government just ensures that ability and for the secession to endure.
