Are we in a golden era of TV right now?

Just watched the last episode of Shogun and it was one of the more gut wrenching hours of TV I’ve seen in a long long time.
Fallout is great. Bear is one of the best things in years. Gentlemen was one of the best spinoffs I’ve ever seen. Halo kinda righted itself. Succession had a great run.
White Lotus. Beef. Only Murders in the Building. Poker Face. Twisted Metal. Barry. Last of Us. Severance. Devs. The Old Man. Stranger Things. Witcher (S1&2.) 3 body problem. Peacemaker. Mare of Easttown. Yellowjackets. House of Dragon. Masters of the Air. What we do in the shadows. Could go on and on.
I can hardly name any movies I’m pumped for comparatively. Maybe MI:8. Not that there aren’t great movies as well, but I’m to a point where I can’t catch up and there’s dozens of shows I haven’t even seen that I randomly stumble across or remember to watch like 1883. i knew it was a thing at the time but I’m just now getting to it. There’s dozens more saved in the list where I could make it 3 years and never catch up.
I feel like there were some solid eras in the late 90s early 00s when Got, BB, Wire, Mad Men, Lost, Sopranos, etc were all airing at the same time, but nothing compared to today.

Nope. We just left it. I would argue the Golden Era of TV started in the late-90s with the premiere of shows like The Sopranos and The West Wing.

Absolutely not. If anything, the quality over the years has dropped overall. Shogun is an outlier so far. It's harder and harder to find good content imo to invest time in.

I wouldn’t say quality has dropped, just that there’s more bad stuff put out with more streaming content.

I think putting the Crown and Stranger Things(hell, even OITNB or BCS) in the same category of Sopranos/West Wing is a BIIIGGG stretch.
Sopranos was done filming before Netflix was sending out DVDs.

Don’t think we are the golden era. But we are in an era with more choices than ever, so even if the percentage of really good shows is low, there are still lots of them out there.

No. Network tv and sitcoms are way down and quality content is stretched over multiple streaming platforms. I feel like we are in more of a something's got to give scenario where we start witnessing some bankruptcies and consolidation.

The Golden Era of TV was before cable and numerous networks.
Sure you have more choices now but most of it is unwatchable trash. Back in the day the Big 3 networks would spend the entire corporate budget on at most 21 shows a year (7p-10p x 7days/week) and the season was about 9 months long (holidays and other specials filled the calendar). Minor characters and guests would be A -list movie and theater stars, very little weak acting. Writers had to exhibit top quality as the competition was fierce.
The limited availability for delivery made the competition for a paycheck tough. Only the best of the best made it.

agreed with that statement. Appointment television is mostly dead due to streaming. You had maybe 3 shows a week worth watching (or that appealed to you) in the fall and spring.
On the flip side with streaming, we've had Shogun, Death and other Details (meh, but enjoyable,) Fallout, Gentlemen, Masters of the Air, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Manhunt, 3 Body Problem, etc. all come out since February.
While you can point to Sopranos, Wire, etc, there were never that many well regarded shows on at one time.
That being said, while there's more garbage than ever before, there's also some amazing choices like never before.

TV now is a shitshow compared to what I grew up with and have enjoyed watching over the years.
So many shows that were popular in the past could not be made today with the amount of "this is so insensitive" people in the world.
Watch almost any older western or popular sit-com from years ago on TV today and they usually come with some disclaimer/warning that "The material depicted in this show may be sensitive to some viewers and depict an antiquated view of the world" or some such similar crap.

It seems like there's always just enough wrong with a show to make it not worthy. Like maybe it's been just algoed enough to make it too broad.

Ah this old narrative, 99% of the shows you talk about have nothing on some of the streaming shows
