Meh, there is nothing happening in Toranaga’s camp he doesn’t know about.

Did he also plan for his son to use canons to attack Ishido's envoy?

we have 1 episode left?

I feel like we’ve got a lot of loose ends here.

Lots of loose ends, but there isn't much length left on the ropes of those loose ends.

He wasn’t there when that happened. He also was extremely mad at his son do you not remember?

I think you are missing my point

He also wasn't there when his son, the nephew, and the nephew's whore planned the assassination of his brother.

No I mean he was literally not in the village when his son killed those guys. He was there when the assassination attempt went down. He knew what was happening and the likely outcome IMO, he seems to be able to predict pretty much how people will react to stuff.

One dead security guard and your whole place is overrun with assassins?

Yabushige himself killed several, including the watch tower guard, and then opened the gate.

Did you not watch? Yabushige killed multiple people to setup the entire raid

He started it all by killing the lookout

Yabu killed the guy outside. Then he killed the dude just inside the door.

I don’t think that’s true.

also the outcome of his son slipping in a rock and dying is maybe the least likely outcome

Why do people like Mariko so much? I love the show but she wasn’t exactly an endearing character.

I thought she was quite endearing. She was a woman who suffered great loss, who was fiercely loyal to her Lord, and certainly didn’t suffer any fools (her speech before Ishido was badass). I’m sad she died.

I feel like the whole point of the show is to highlight maybe not the best aspects of loyalty in this culture.

I found her kinda annoying with the will to live of a houseplant. I also found her motivations sorta all over the place.

I wanna die because my family died turned into I wanna due to get away from my husband the second her husband told she could die with him.

Honor and loyalty is a great deal back then. You die in honor and serve lord to your death. They sacrifice themselves for the Lord's cause

In sheds light into the Japanese culture in the way they charged suicidally into machine gun fire on many WW2 battlefields instead of surrendering. They were dying with honor.

Yabushige

The actor playing this guy is so good. Something about his expressions and responses to problems cracks me up … you can feel him just trying find a way to enrich himself and be on the right side so he doesn’t get killed. Every time he thinks he’s got it figured out something happens and you can see “aw shite….oh well” in his expressions.

It’s saying something to the actor that he can portray a character that boiled somebody alive and betrayed his master as being likeable.

If Yabushige always is rewriting his will, it makes me wonder what Mariko may have put in her will (if she has anything or wrote one). Maybe she was rich from her family all being dead?

Yabushige's nephew is the character that has me on the fence. He's kind of a dick and at the same time he's not stupid and has to put up with the older lords' insults.

Will be interesting to see if any award nominations appear for this series. It's basically a foreign language series (or at least the best performances in it are by characters who only speak Japanese).

If he looks familiar to you, it's from the Thor movies
