.imagine if they had traded away future capital for Fuaga. Now THAT, my friend, would have caused me to melt and this entire site to crash

Oh I would have melted for that

or if Bowers slipped to us and we still went OG

But Bowers went 1 pick early so there were no more unicorn guys left, so the differences were less.

Guy who has one of the safest floors in the draft is meh. Got it

At worst, he’s a slightly above average starter for years. At best, he’s an All Pro/Pro Bowl level talent. He might not have the potential of Latu, someone who could be one of the best DEs in the league, and be a game changer but having a sure fire starter isn’t meh to me

Love the pick. He will be a bookend. One of the league guys called him a nimble bully, I love it!

SFP, drafting Latu and then having him for 8 games in season 1,

Yes, 10% of his contract, compared to 50%

1. You’re assuming no other injury would pop up

2. Marcus Davenport and Payton Turner

Not comparable to a cost-controlled 1st round contract. For example, if Latu missed half a year, that would only be 10% of that contract length, not 50%

And you’re ok drafting this guy over Fuaga knowing there could be issues with him missing games, if not have issues his whole career?

Again Fuaga short arms concern you more than Latu’s neck issues. That makes absolutely no sense.

You guys think Bowers would have been the pick if he was there?

I'm comparing like to like.

Young could have a career-ending injury, too.

2. Marcus Davenport and Payton Turner

Raw athletes who are hurt due to that physical profile.

Literally nothing like Latu at all

True, neither medically retired at one point in college

Yes b/c he's much more likely to become an elite player at a more valuable position (I think Fuaga could be elite at OG)

Would you prefer a Bosa brother or Mike Iupati (the most common comparison to Fuaga I found)?

His short arms likely make him a G, which hurts his value immensely as a prospect (and need-based player, as well).

Underhill indicated earlier in the day he was doubtful they would take him. So I doubt it. They probably would have taken Latu or Turner if the 4 OTs were gone

Only way they take Bowers is if Latu/Turner and the 4 OTs went. I would have bolted to the podium for him but the Saints hate TEs

Exactly. Latu has a high ceiling but he is an absolute gamble. The guy could completely be out of the league if somehow the neck injury issues reappear or he aggravates something via injury.

Nick for sure. But I’d 100% take Iupati over Joey’s injured arse. Iupati was an All Pro and 4X Pro Bowler, not same no name slack arse that barely played for the 49ers lol

Hes also much more likely to be out of the league due to his neck injuries. Something you completely ignore when doing the comparison.

I prefer Iupati(Fuaga could be a much better player but for the sake of your argument) over some guy who’s out of the league due to neck issues like Shazier.

These are just assumptions made by you before a guy even plays. Its like you’re ruling him out at OT before he even steps on the practice field. You can’t make arguments based on your biased assumptions.

Senior Bowl executive director Jim Nagy said the Saints got themselves a "Day One starter" in Taliese Fuaga. "Slam dunk," Nagy said. He added that he thinks he will be a perennial Pro Bowler.

I half way expected them to hit full on panic mode once Latham was selected. I thought that 2nd rounder was toast.

Was coming to post the same thing. Like I said earlier, if he’s Carl Nicks reincarnated or is a Pro Bowl RT, does it really matter?

You don't win championships by drafting safe, high-ceiling guys. You need elite talent. That's not a guarantee it always works.

No shite. That wasn't the question.

FYI, the Bosa brothers are intentionally chosen due to their extensive injuries, and Iupati is the perceived apex of Fuaga (Giving him all the benefit of the doubt)

Again, it's not impossible, but highly unlikely. I play the odds. I have already said he may be the outlier.

*That's supposed to be "high-floor" not high ceiling

Damn right. He is one of the few I listen to.
