re: How are Infiniti and Lexus cars on maintenance?

Bought my wife an Infiniti G37 last year. It is a 2012. Took it to a dealership a couple of times for maintenance and it was way over priced. Now I just take it to a shop near my house that I trust. They don't call them stealerships for nothing. Been a great car.

I can't speak for every Lexus, but I drive an IS350. The oil change is done every 5K, not 10-15K as others have speculated. Maybe the schedule on the ES, GS, LS or SUVs is different. Having said that, the oil change is only about $55 bucks at dealership in Houston. No idea what a quicklube would cost.
The other maintenance can get pricey, but a lot of it is "recommended" vs. "required". As others have said, if you can afford the car, you can afford the maintenance. If not, get something else.
With all of that said, I absolutely love driving that car and would highly recommend.

I have a Lexus LS460. The oil change is every 5k miles as well. It runs around $100 each time.
In 3 years I've put about 70k miles on it and never had one issue. It still drives like the day I bought it. I would highly recommend.

Why are you changing it every 5K?

Get an Acura. Made by Honda. Run forever with very low maintenance.

Honda/Acura makes the best engines, and probably overall cars, in the world. In terms of quality and lifespan.

Had an Acura, 96 model Integra. Great car never broke down once in 140k miles. But, the thing I don't like about Hondas in general is rubber timing belts.
Talk about expensive (or a major PITA DIY job) regular maintenance.
Have had several Nissans and now own an Infiniti G37 sedan.
All Nissans have been reliable as tanks and as a bonus, they have metal timing chains, not rubber belts. Ergo, you never need to worry about that or what happens to an interference engine (like a Honda) when that rubber timing belt breaks.
I'll take an Infiniti over an Acura for that reason alone.
IMO, Infiniti is the Japanese BMW, and Lexus is the Japanese Mercedes. Not sure where Acura fits, but a TL is FWD, therefore only sporty, not sport. (sports cars are RWD or AWD)
Primary diff IMO is that Infiniti/BMW are more sport oriented (still offer M/T or did until recently in Infiniti's case -- frick the drivebywire techno wonder q50) whereas the Lexus Mercedes are luxury oriented with even their 'sport' models available with A/T only.
meh. slushboxes are for cripples, women, tow rigs/drag cars/rock crawlers. They suck for every day driving and cost a fortune to repair when they inevitably eat shite.
In general though, the Lexus/Infiniti/Acura triad are better made than their lower tier cousins - Toyota/Nissan/Honda.
I believe that is primarily due to most of the high end cars being assembled in Japan, while the Camrys/Alitmas/Accords are all built in the US.
My 03 Altima had a rock solid engine, was very quick (14.16@99.5mph), got around 27MPG avg, and never broke down once in 145k miles. But the interior (built in the US) was not so well built and plastic shite was always breaking off or rattling.
Still the car hauled arse reliably.
My 2011 G37 has a similar drive train but much better fit/finish on the inside and out.
Same when I compared my old Integra to similar era Civics.

Men drive M/T.

GTL can get pricey.

The only problem my Infiniti has given me is faulty tire pressure sensors
Why would you pay to have those sensors replaced anyway? Just check your tires regularly and you will be fine. That's just an added feature that is not necessary to have. My wife's old Altima had the same problem and I wasn't about to pay to have that bullshite fixed

The wife has an 06 G35. Only problem other than routine maintanence was changing rear rotors and calipers.
I do all the work myself and save alot. Oil changes are simple and not worth the extra cost of paying someone 2x the cost of materials to do

My wife has an Acura TSX, it's great.
We previously had an accord that ran for 280k miles before I sold it for 3k.
The TSX is significantly nicer feeling than the same model Accord, but both are great cars.
