They tell you the price of the specials they’re pushing. There’s nothing wrong about asking.

Just ask. "What's the price on the lobster main tonight?"

Do you ask the price before? Probably not. Seems tacky
I'm not poor, but I'm not stupid, I ask.

If you’re ordering something at market price you should probably just be okay with paying out the arse for whatever it is.

That is moronic. Just ask.

What I hate is when they put market price on the specials board written in chalk. I understand not printing 200 menus with the price for a volitally proceed protein but how hard is it to change the chalk board when a new shipment comes in?
i know....right.

You are not poor if you think it is tacky to ask how much market price is for a menu item. I am poor. We are most happy to ask them how much, even if we know we are not getting the item, just to find out how much they are charging.

I always ask, and my “always ask” policy was further reaffirmed by my brother in law ordering some crazy lobster dish while in Rosemary Beach and not asking….when he got the bill it was $285

You always ask, unless you don’t give a shite about prices.

The waiters don’t get offended, it’s expected that you would ask.

Yeah my FIL is almost downright embarrassing to go out to eat with sometimes. He penny pinches like a mfer in all facets of his life too. But he is one of the more wealthy individuals that I personally know.

He would definitely ask. Then he would probably ask, "Why the hell is it that much?"

I’m a previously impoverished person so I’m too tight to buy something if I don’t know the price and too ashamed to have to ask the price. So I got no answers.

Restaurants used to work on a 33% food cost. Now, they try to push below 30. This means something that costs them $10 at the fish market will cost you $30+ on your bill, plus the starch, veggie, etc.

If I want oysters, I’ll ask. Never know what the price is. If it’s over 22-25 for a dozen, I’ll get something else. Once they were 32. No way I’m paying 32 dollars for a dozen oysters.

I love when I ask and the dumb liberal arts major waitress says, “i’ll have to find out.” Like your shitey boss/chef didn’t brief y’all pre-shift about tonight’s specials and prices, obviously they did, so no tip for you. Cry on Facebook about my $150 tab leaving you $2.
