State police arrive at Archdiocese headquarters with warrant for all clergy sex abuse records
quote:

Driving marked cruisers and dressed in business attire, Louisiana State police agents on Thursday arrived at the headquarters of the Archdiocese of New Orleans to serve an unprecedented search warrant that demands officials turn over all records related to a decades-long clergy sex abuse crisis that recently prompted the local Catholic church to file for bankruptcy.

Three investigators entered the Walmsley Avenue building just before 10 a.m., three days after a New Orleans magistrate judge signed the warrant, which was spawned by the criminal investigation into disgraced priest Lawrence Hecker.

State police have worked with Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams to bring kidnapping and rape charges against Hecker, 92, for allegedly abusing a teenager while serving as a priest in the archdiocese decades ago. The trial, which was set to start in March, has been delayed as Hecker's attorneys argue that he is not mentally competent.

Investigators initially sought Catholic church records related to Hecker. But based on those documents, they are now seeking all church records related to the local abuse crisis, as well as communications between Archbishop Gregory Aymond and the Vatican, according to WWL Louisiana.

The archdiocese has said it is cooperating with the investigation.

This could get juicy. I believe Wendy Vitter was the general counsel for the Diocese before she took the federal bench. I can’t wait to see where this goes.

State does not want to get smacked with a lawsuit for failure to investigate like the feds decided to settle this week. Probably too late.

Putting a 92 year old senile pedo in jail really sends a strong message. What that message is who knows? This is nothing more than a feel good publicity stunt by a corrupt DA .

After Katrina, I lived and worked at the Seminary on Carrollton. I felt the weight of the scandal in that building. I can't explain it in words, but the building itself felt spooky.

Classic cover up is worse than the crime except the crime in question is about one of the worst things humans can do. The Archbishop should have gotten this settled years ago but chose to go the duck and hide route. Let the chips fall where they may regardless of who gets drug through the mud. Child molestation should not be tolerated for any reason or institution.

Yeah, this is the issue I have with it.

And there are many churches/schools that have suffered over the years due to the cover ups and lawsuits. AND it's still hurting these people. They Archdioces sent out a letter a few months back to inform the parishes that they may need more money soon to help with the lawsuit cost and such.

But, But, But..... I see far more female public school teacher being arrested for diddling students in the parking lot. Should the same level of financial confiscation occur with school boards as is done to the church?

What happeend 40-50 years ago was awful, but the way it was handled at the time was how things were done at this time.

Our current Archbishop - a local man - had the chance to truly come clean, and he decided to talk a big talk but his actions say otherwise.

He has zero credibiity left.

This 100% was the final straw that killed Catholicism for me. Not even that the priests did it, but the way the church covered it up. Not just NOLA, even Lafayette just had a story of a deacon getting excommunicated by the bishop for speaking out about his own son being molested by a priest and the diocese covering it up.

Depends, did those school boards move said female teachers from school to school after learning of allegations at each prior school in an attempt at a cover up?

If it were a cult, you would have thousands of catholics everywhere screaming for tolerance and understanding while they continue to put their kids in harms way. I've never met ONE christian that supports a pedophile priest. They all want them caught, sentenced, and dealt with.
