My concern stems largely from the fact that she just doesn't seem to think it's a big deal.

That’s a reason to be concerned. If I loved someone enough to marry them I wouldn’t go off for 6 months voluntarily. I have been around a while and have seen many friends and acquaintances do this and in the majority of cases it rarely works out. Most of the time they found someone else and it was over.

If I really love the girl, I've never found this to be true.

Can't keep her chained up... It's not ideal, but this will either make your relationship stronger or end it... Either way, it's a good thing before you are married...

There's no reason to break up with her. Tell her you love her and to support her. Let her go and then let life play out.

Solid advice..

Extra money, including the tax savings, makes it a lucrative six months. Financially you both benefit in the long run. It is win win.

She should also set you up, while she is gone, with a sister, or cousin that looks like her to take care of pre-sandwich activities.

This board always shocks me on situations like this. If she travels as much as you say and the assignment will let her grow in what appears to be a successful career, what's the issue?

Other than banging some nasty rich oil sheik (that wipes his arse with his finger) -- nothing.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm somewhat shocked by the number of real responses--and appreciative.
