"Burn no bridges" used to be a career strategy. Now it's just a character trait.

Correct. I knew he or the HR Manager couldn’t say shite one way or the other. He was a micromanaging control freak who couldn’t handle anyone standing up to him. Total mental midget if he couldn’t get his way.

I have a pretty fun one.
Gave 30 days notice. Corporate Boss and HR showed up the next day to tell me to leave and not work out the 30 days. They were pissed I was leaving and was trying to make it look like to staff that it was their doing. Fine. I’m moving on.
Two days later I get a call from HR asking if I will work out the remaining 30 days on an interim contract.
I laughed out loud. Said “are you serious?” said no thank you and hung up.
I mean Jesus Christ. The freaking nerve.
The gap between on sight management and corporate bobble heads in any given industry is huge.

Worked offshore for 12 years at a company and put in my 2 week notice. They didn't think I was quitting so they had me go to these classes. Last day told them see ya.
Worked at another company for 3.5 years, got laid off and went back to the 12 year company. I didn't want to go back but they were hiring and money was OK. 3 years later I walked into another company told them I'm looking for a a job. 6 weeks later I went in for an interview and got hired on the spot. Walked into my employers office and told them I quit.
They asked why I didn't give 2 weeks notice, I told them they won't give me one if I'm laid off. They said no problem and if I need a job to come back. Been 5 years since I left. They called me last year to come back. Told them they can't pay enough.

I never burned a bridge either and could return to any company I worked for.

They wanted to fire me but instead they put me in the basement and stole my stapler.

I was in commercial banking for a decade. At the encouragement for friends, I started a small side hustle in marketing/advertising. Could tell that was where I really wanted to be but was too scared to make a switch because of financial and family reasons. The finance job paid well but it was soulless corporate misery. Had a windowless office in a tower in Downtown Bham. However, I didn’t want to start all over with a new career while we were trying to start a family. We were dealing with 7 years of infertility and I needed every cent to pay for that process.
After a devastating miscarriage (we had 7) I woke up and said frick it. I was almost 40 and was tired of waiting for life to happen. Had an Office Space type of moment. Walked in my boss’ office the next day and told him I quit. Turned the side hustle into full time and went to work harder than I ever had before hoping I could turn a profit before savings ran out. Several months later, Covid happened and my business took off because so many businesses had to retool their marketing and online presence in a hurry.
3 years later and business is going great. Plus we have an 18 month old with another on the way.

My last semester at LSU I was working at the Eckerds near Caterie on Perkins. I was a pharmacy clerk.
One Tuesday afternoon a sick morphine addict came in and robbed the pharmacy for synthetic morphine drugs we had for cancer patients.
When it was over, I told the pharmacy I vowed to quit if I was robbed on the job. I finished my shift and never returned.

I would have seen how much they were willing to get bent over the barrel.

You had already been laid off, but were only getting paid because of a glitch in the system. The glitch got fixed and you got moved to the basement.

Got laid off from the company, right after 9-11. This happened about two weeks before a software delivery that I was working. HR called me the next week to come in for one more week, at the same hourly pay and finish the work. I agreed, but for much more per hour. Worked that one week and left, knowing that they needed my help for one more week. My replacement hosed things up and I got another call from HR about two weeks later to come back and finish the work. I agreed to work remote as a consultant and support my replacement, for a much, much, higher rate. In the end, the software got delivered successfully and had a new, higher paying job, along with some extra money from my previous employer.

I've only quit one job and I was normal but the partner I gave my 2 weeks to told me I just ruined my life with the decision as if working at (insert global CPA firm) was the pinnacle of the profession.
Turns out it wasn't.
You got that right. Working for a huge firm is bottom tier of the accounting world. Good experience to put on the resume, but that's about it.

Got an ultimatum when they caught me with my wiener in the potato peeler at the potato chip factory. Rather not say the brand name. But basically they said , resign or be fired. Once I found out she lost her job too, I drug up. Today notice, cmon.
