Blues: Robert Johnson(and every great blues/guitar player)

Absolutely. Although, irony of ironies, and at the risk of being labeled a Debbie Downer, I can't ignore the fact that the blues were born out of a ferocious system of oppression, injustice and discrimination.

yes, but they used the term obesity, illiterate, and teen pregnancy.

I'm completely serious when I say that the mental picture I have of the entire area of Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama in particular when it comes to overweight is of the enormous amount of overweight whites and blacks, and it doesn't change one bit when you cross over an imaginary line on the map that bring you from one state to the other.

Let's face the facts, white, black, and Latino, this area of the country excels in the vast majority of the population being heavy, whether that's overweight or obese, and I'd say that is a direct reflection of two things... The high fat foods and the lack of exercise because it's hot most of the year and our addiction to both fatty foods and the A/C.

LA's shitty roads shouldn't be considered a positive aspect of Mississippi. That should be the baseline.

I-55 is a disaster...one of the worst stretches of roads I've seen. Louisiana roads are smooth by comparision. Mississippi gets the shaft for highway upkeep I guess.

I'll give them credit though....I-269 in Desoto and Marshall County is coming along very nicely. northwestern Mississippi is going to see a lot of suburban growth in the future. They are trying to attract white collar jobs to those areas. I don't think that's going to be enough to help the state in a meaningful way though.

Alabama has had some success in attracting steel and automotive industry to their state. I hope that spills over to Mississippi and northern Louisiana along I-20.

It's a real shame. I imagine a lot of Ole Miss and Miss State grads end up in Memphis, Atlanta, Nashville, or even New Orleans. So much of that state is still recovering from the changes in the agriculture industry. There are a lot of small towns along the delta that are pretty much dead today.
