True. Most of those decisions fall on local and state governments. They have a pile of money already that they are largely unaccountable for. Use what you have first, prove you can do so without fricking wasting it, then talk about needing more. Don't keep pissing it away while at the same time telling taxpayers you need more.

So, you're for investing in industry, as long as that investment is made by the government via tax dollars, but not by private industry? Does encouraging and fostering private industry not do the same damn thing?

Let's see, spend trillions of dollars on stimulus knowing it has to be paid back by the people you gave it to, or simply cut taxes and let everyone benefit with no other govt intervention required.
Nope.
Nope.

Government doesn't have a profit motive like private entities. And there is corruption in government contracts, largely driven by the no-bid contracts that one particular party defends with all their might.

Our infrastructure fricking sucks. Increase taxes on the wealthiest
Logically, increasing taxes on the largest income pool is the correct approach for those who have no interest in reducing spending. That is easily the middle and upper middle classes. But you don't really want that, because that likely includes you. You are very NIMBY on taxes, which is fair, but all of your logic stems from this flaw. Over taxing the uber wealthy will not suffice for your stated goals. And of course it has many consequences.

We were near or headed for the natural rate of unemployment before covid. Impeccable timing of such a random, naturally occurring event.

Taxes in this country changed forever under Clinton to where executives are incentivized to leverage their balance sheet for compensation. Without rolling those laws back you won't see some highly successful tax on rich people.

Meh, I don't have an issue with the bank story yesterday. Primarily because I believe the bank has just as much right to require a mask be worn as they had to require hats, sunglasses, or masks to not be worn before Covid. That woman has a personal responsibility to not act like an arse, too.

Our infrastructure fricking sucks.
It does, and it's shameful. For the taxes we collect, we should have amazing infrastructure, no issues with power loss or hacking. Roads should be immaculate, schools should be all top performing, and govt ran with low labor rates and effective.
We have none of that.
Our infrastructure is crumbling, we can keep the power on, roads are like driving a crash avoidance test track, schools are low performing by and large, and a hugely bloated govt that focuses more on giving our country away to China and Russia, growing their power, giving away trillions of American tax dollars to countries to do gender studies and printing millions of documents in hundreds of languages instead of expecting people who come and live here to learn and speak English.
And people wonder why there is a coming civil war.

Well, you're clearly right about that one. A country (Corporation for comparison sake) that is trillions of dollars in debt, might as well be bankrupt, that keeps seeing people take jobs within it just to come out multimillionaires years later to the person certainly isn't worried about "turning a profit". It makes perfect sense!
