Regardless of how you feel about Ukraine and helping them it was obvious that the bill was going to pass. Julia Letlow still voted against it. LA-5 is a dying district especially now that CenturyLink is gone. Letlow didn’t even try to leverage her vote in order to get something in return for the district. It would have been great if she could have gotten a defense plant for the district or something like that. La-5 deserves better. We need a representative that is going to try improve the district instead of a representative who just bends over to help the world’s largest welfare queens (aka farmers).

Appointed like a monarch and voting for what she is told to do. But she is so nice is what I was told when she was running. I voted for the Alexandria guy and did not vote last time. Disgusted with the whole process.

Wait so now we want them to vote FOR Ukraine aid?

Can we at least be consistent on this type of thing? Do we want single-issue legislation, or do we want a bajillion earmarks and pork in every bill so that every member of congress can have a community center built in some podunk village in their district?

Good for her. I don't much else about her, but she sounds better than Mike Johnson.

Are you FOR giving money to Ukraine, but against giving money to farmers?

You seem very informed about local issues.

Who is "we"? Is this person supposed to represent a block of people?

Abraham was great for the district. He got grants for the rural hospitals and even had secured an Home Depot distribution center for Tallulah La, but the deal fell apart when Letlow didn’t fight the farmers who got the police jury to kill the deal because they would have to pay more for labor.

I'm surprised she voted no.

Good for her.

This board is rather monolithic on the two points I addressed.

(1) Opposition to the Ukraine aid package and
(2) Single-issue legislation

No we want our representative to leverage her vote to try and get something for the district. If she gets something for the district like a defense factory restoring HAWK missiles being sent to Ukraine. What we don’t want is someone who just votes no without trying to improve the district.

So you DO want omnibus bills filled with pork and set aside nonsense.

Plus, Letlow had zero leverage to do anything of the sort. Her vote wasn't needed to pass the bill.

It’s my home district and I still have love for it. I hate to see it dying and especially hate to see our representatives do nothing to try and slow the decline.

It doesn’t have to be an omnibus bill. The bill contained money for modernization and restoration of old missiles and that is going to require an expansion of facilities. So it was pork that was already in the bill.

She had leverage with MTG trying to oust Johnson as Speaker. She could leverage her support for Johnson in exchange for something for the district.

The vast majority of which is money being spent in the USA to replace old weapons given to Ukraine with new weapons for the American military.

Leveraging support works with single issue bills. You vote for my bill and in exchange I will vote for your bill.

So more pork horse-trading.

You and I want different things from our government. I also don't have the expectation that my representative will attempt to demand concessions in every bill.
