Okay non-answer. I am sure all of your time in the military can provide me a sufficient answer to the question.

“He clearly made the decisions he made because he thought there would be a lot of deaths resulting from this virus on his ship.”

Was his ship full of 70 yo somethings with preexisting conditions or healthy young men and women. Would he have done this if they had the flu? How many have died to date? Serious questions.

This captain didn't worry about his crew when he allowed shore leave in Viet Nam in March. He deserves all hes gotten with no apology needed.

This is a tough one to get at truly. One the hand there was a serious health concern and everyone in uniform has the right to call “knock it off” if they feel there are unsafe conditions. You also have whistle blower privileges, and a right not to suffer reprisals. None of these seem to have been afforded the Captain.

On the other hand, if it is true he never brought up his grave concerns while on a conference call with his superiors then it is hard to understand his recourse.

Easily the best post in here.

Please tell me you just compared influenza to covid-19. Just want to clarify how things work in your head.

Was definitely a mistake and could have secured liberty as the CO.

Acting Navy Secretary Thomas Modly offered to resign on Tuesday following an uproar over a profanity-laced address to the crew of the coronavirus-stricken aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt on Sunday, according to a senior defense official with knowledge of the matter. Modly submitted his resignation letter to Defense Secretary Mark Esper on Tuesday after meeting with his boss one-on-one, that official said. Neither Esper nor the White House pressured Modly to resign, the official said, and it is unclear whether Esper will accept it.

Modly is a piece of shite for degrading a commanding officer like that. If any enlisted or anyone in the military said that they would be Captain masted real quick!

Gone are the days of setting a good example!

His arse is gone. Good riddance! All he did was weaken the republic and ruin the career of a man who was a much better naval officer than Modly ever was.
