This is a national security issue that should have been dealt with internally.

I hadn’t actually read his letter, but after reading your post, I figured there must be something crazy in it. I don’t know what I was expecting, but I wasn’t expecting it to be something resembling a grant proposal with detailed plans and evidence to justify these plans.

I mean the whole “chain of command,” idea with something like this (as opposed to just as a standard process flow) is nonsense to me since it’s basically the opposite of our nation’s and what has made us successful (e.g., getting results; liberty; authority can be questioned); however, I get that this sort of weak mindset in society is believe to somehow “not weak” in the military. So I get that people are aware of the consequences of straying off the path that we told to follow.

That being said, the content of the letter itself supports any of your histrionics, but I guess your an ideal individual for that mineset.

Are you still hammering away at this? What was the host nation supposed to do? What was his superiors supposed to do? They were managing the situation with the resources that were available. Stop making the guy out to be a martyr. He wasn’t. You still haven’t addressed the morbidity issue either. How many Sailors and Marines lost their lives in this incident? In the end it was managed as best as it could in the circumstances that presented themselves. No one came out smelling like a rose.

It's interesting that some posters are saying that Crozier did this to protect his sailors, and others are saying that by doing this, he put his sailors at great risk.

Such as we are in the country these days... there is no middle ground.

Seems to me there are really three issues at play here.

1) Should Crozier have gone scorched earth by sending the e-mail to whom he did? I can see both sides.

2) Should Modly have removed him from command? I can see both sides.

3) Should Modly have gone to the TR and got on the 1-MC and blasted Crozier? Or even discussed the issue at all like that? I can't for the life of me think of why this was a good idea.

This should be the final word in any of these threads. (As to No. 2 above, I can "see both sides", but it's Modly's call, so while I see it both ways, I accept and respect the decision, period.)

Disagree. He created a tremendous risk to his crew by revealing their lack of readiness on the high seas.

A crew of sick sailors is not much of a deterrent.
So instead of addressing the issue, the Dept ignored his request for help.
It sounds like a typical peace time military response.
Ignore the problem, it will go away.

That is an assumption on your part. What more could they have done? They were in port and had evacuated the most acute cases. What about the host nation? What about their concerns? Are they not valid?
